One year ago today my life changed forever

Thursday, January 24, 2013

1 year ago today I had gastric bypass surgery. I know that some people think that is "an easy way out" but I could care less about that opinion. It isn't your life, and you couldn't be any further from the truth. There is nothing easy about this. I didn't expect it to be easy. Totally changing your lifestyle and habits is a lot of work. This was a tool and I used it as such. What this surgery did do is got me off insulin in only 2 weeks, with only a 20 lbs weight loss. There is a lot of evidence that the surgery is able to effect insulin absorption right away, regardless of weight loss. It worked for me. I went to the hospital using 100-150 units of insulin a day, I was totally off within 14 days. Being off insulin was life saving. It allowed me to work out without having dangerous lows. Nothing is more frustrating that working hard all day to control your diet, work out then have to consume several hundred calories in juice to correct a low blood sugar. I am down. 138 lbs, I work out daily. I feel amazing, I am pain free, my diabetes is an control. I am happy with the results. This tool helped me change my lifestyle. I choose to work out, I choose to eat healthy, I choose to be a better healthier person. No regrets here.

Congrats! You've got an amazingly positive attitude... good for you!

I've got surgery scheduled for 2/27/13 and I'm starting to get nervous. I've already lost 77 pounds on the pre-op diet and have been exercising like a mad-woman since mid-December. Wish me luck... as I've got a LOOOONG road ahead of me.

Keep up the great work!
