An Outdoor Run!

Thursday, January 24, 2013

I ran outside again! Not yesterday as planned, though. Yesterday was a rough, super busy day for me. Ok, probably not the busiest day for me ever - I still believe I was much busier at my previous office, though I am certainly getting up there lately with work to do, and its good. I was assigned a court-martial that will go to court in 2 weeks. It was a last minute switch becuase the attorney we had assigned we just found out has a conflict. Nothing like 2 weeks to prep to go to court... I shouldnt complain becuase I really wanted to get back into court, but now that I am actually busy, the timing isnt fantastic. Especially with my new responsibility and potentially having 3 clients with cases next month also! But I'll do what has to be done. I ended up staying a bit late last night, and while I could have gone to the gym and gotten in a run (it was too dark to run outside by then), I also had a ton of laundry and packing to get done, so I just went home instead. And I am fine with that because I was able to get all packed up and get to bed at a reasonable time!

Plus, this morning was office PT so I knew I could get in a run this morning! And I did! It was 40 degrees out and it just felt like perfect running weather, so although when I left my house I assumed I'd run on the treadmill, by the time I got to base I was convinced to run outside! I had on compression capris, a tech-tee, and a loose and light hoodie. The running path on base is 2:25-2.5 miles depending on where you turn. Well, you could do 3.5 miles too. I chose 2.25. The path has three large rolling hills right after the first mile which always kill me, but I ran the whole thing, and towards the end I had my pace at 9:30 at one point! My total time was 24:24 for 2.25 miles, with an average pace of 10:52. Which is GREAT because 2 weeks ago I did the same running path, with an average pace of 11:18. I am getting faster!!! Woohoo! And second time wearing my new running sneakers and they are great!

Super jealous of your outdoor run! It's been 3 degrees here, so I haven't been able to, and I'm missing it badly!

Sounds like you had a great run, I can't wait until I can run again :) The best thing for me is that the hardest portion of getting fit again (the first couple of months) will be during our winter and I have to admit that I love running outside when it's chilly.
So much easier to enjoy than sweating and slogging along in the aussie heat *chuckle*..
Good to hear about the new shoes working out too! The first thing I'm investing in when I start running again is some good new shoes. I can't run past about 5km without getting blisters and it's a real pain in the behind.
