Hi Spark Friends! First off, THANK YOU to everyone for the comments and goodies. I'm trying to get back to everyone, but as you can imagine, life is a little busy right now!
Many of you have asked me how L&D went...especially my pregnant friends. I'll tell you my story, but I know many of you are having your first, so the story of my L&D probably won't match up with yours. My first, while not difficult, was much longer than my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. For me, the tale of "it goes faster each time" is very true!
With all of my children I have started labor in the AM. I would have mild contractions all day long, increasing as the day went on. Emily started after I woke up, she was born the next day at 2:36PM. Chad started when I woke up, he was born the next day at 4:29 AM. Preston started when I woke up, he was born the same day, at 5:54PM. So you see my point here. So, each day I woke up and didn't have contractions within the first 2 hours, I cancelled out the possibility of going into labor that day. So when I had no contractions Friday morning, I figured I'd be at Walmart grocery shopping on Saturday morning!
So Friday night, at 10PM, hubby and I decided to move into our bedroom, watch the news, and turn the lights out. The news ended at 10:30, and we laid there watching something, when all the sudden I had a contraction lasting a full minute...this was 10:45. 5 minutes later, another, 5 minutes later, another. Each one lasting a full minute. Wow...this was different. My instruction from the dr. were to call when they were 4 to 5 minutes apart, lasting a minute, for an hour. So after the first hour of labor, it was time to call. I was told to head on over to the hospital. We arrived at midnight...I was just barely 3cm. I was surprised, but I still had the feeling things would move quickly, and that they did. After walking for an hour (from 1:10 to 2:10 AM) I was at 4cm. The doctor decided to break my water and then have the anesthesiologist come in. I was all for my epidural this time around and enjoying my last birth in a calm state...LOL!
So a little time table...
10:45 PM - 1st contraction
11:45 - call to dr.
12:05 AM - arrived at hospital
1:10 - 3cms on a mission to walk for an hour!
2:10 - 4 cms
2:35 - doctor broke my water
3:35 - Received epidural and told to rest for an hour...as if I could sleep!
4:35 - 8 cms
5:35 - 10 cms & GO TIME!
5:46 AM - Carly was born!
Things changed at my hospital from the time I had Preston until now. They now have skin to skin for the first 2 hours, which was really nice. I did let them take her for about 5 minutes so they could weigh her, but that was it for the first 2 hours. She laid on my chest and I was able to nurse. Great experience!
Again, no stitches...the doctor told me I was in the 10% category of giving birth 4 times and never having to have stitches! Woohoo!
We've been home since Sunday afternoon and everything has been going well. The kids love her and she loves staring at them.
Chad is not big on holding her, but he loves to look at her :) He was the same with Preston, he just gets nervous holding them when they are so tiny.
Now Preston is a bit sick, and so we haven't been letting him handle Carly, and it's killing him. I hope he feels better soon, because I don't want him to feel any resentment over this. All he wants to do is help with everying!
OK, some pictures...
Before Preston was sick he was able to feed her two times (just to clarify...I am nursing, but not directly breastfeeding...I pump and we bottle feed...it's a personal thing).
This was last night...a little dark, taken on my phone.
Emily snapped this photo of my brother and Carly at the hospital!
She took this too, which I thought was cute!
OK, that is all for now. I best get off the pc and get some things done before Carly and Preston wake up.
Thanks everyone, for all the well wishes. We are all doing so wonderfully!
