Overdid Water Aerobics :-(

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

Last Saturday, I did a water aerobics class that really worked me! I tried my best to keep up, because I wanted to push myself. Well, I ended up injuring my knee. How do you hurt your KNEE in water aerobics?! I thought the water would save me (and my joints) from all injuries! LOL Well, I've learned a hard lesson. My knee still hurts, but I haven't been to the dr. yet because I have a physical therapy appt in the morning anyway. I'll do what the PT recommends.

Meanwhile, I've done little exercise this week, walking in 5-minute increments a few times, taking ibuprofen and icing at home. Also, this morning I did some bicep and hammer curls with my dumbbells before I left for work. No reason why I can't do some upper body stuff, right?

Water will absorb some of the pressure on your joints but not completely. The best workout you can do is if you tread water while doing the aerobics class, it's more difficult and there are some modification that need to be made to the jumping movements but it is possible. I hope your knee is alright and recovers quickly.

I am so sorry to hear about your knee. Have you tried putting a stretchy Ace bandage on it? I had that problem and icing, alt heat and keeping an Ace Compression Bandage on it seemed to help. Of coarse, your PT will have great recommendations.

Sorry to hear about your injury! But you are strong in that you still didn't let it get you down. You still worked on other areas that weren't injured. Good foro you! Good luck at the PT today. emoticon

so sorry to hear about your knee BUT big congratulations on 1) taking the water aerobics class, 2) taking care of your injury and yourself and getting advice from the PT, and 3) doing what you CAN even with the injury.
Proud of you!

Sorry to hear about your injury....it sounds like you truly over did it.
I have been going to water aerobics five days a week and I LOVE IT! I actually go to the classes that are Medium to High Impact as they help build my heart rate and really give me a workout.
Get better soon and get back to class when you can.

I'm sorry you injured yourself in a water aerobics class. emoticon

I work out in the water all the time. Hopefully the water aerobic instructor had you in the deep end for most of the routine. After all it's suppose to be Low Impact! I have Rhumatoid Arthritis and a Total Knee replacement. Water workouts are the safest and most beneficial to do. It's a full body work out

Ask PT for some exercises you can do in the water.

As a beginner do what you can and when you can't do part of the routine, just jog in place or tread water. Make sure you are using the proper equipment in the water.

You can do it! Good Luck emoticon
