Hotdogs for Dinner? Not for me!

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

So my fiancÚ suggested hotdogs for dinner today. I didn't realize that he was going to pair them with enriched white buns and baked beans. He is very supportive of me eating healthier but what he doesn't seem to understand is that I'm not just doing this for me but for our whole family. We all need to be healthy and especially set a good example for our young daughter.

So I passed on the hotdogs and baked beans. Instead I had leftovers from dinner yesterday which I have to say was the first healthy dinner I cooked without getting a recipe from the Internet. I'm really proud of myself for that one. I paired it with a big salad.

I feel good with my decision and it makes me feel like my willpower is getting stronger with each day that I make good choices. emoticon

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking about trying the Morning Star Veggie Dogs because I got some coupons for their veggie products and the veggie burgers are pretty good. The veggie dogs may be a stretch for him so I will try the turkey dogs first. Thanks for the great suggestion.

Great job! Next time, buy turkey dogs and wheat buns - skip the beans and have a green salad on the side! When I first started changing the way I ate, I had to buy "healthy" stuff for myself and "normal" stuff for my fiance. Over the course of the last year, he's gotten used to it and tonight we BOTH had turkey sausages and big green salads for dinner. Make the change yourself - be the example yourself - he'll come around soon!

Basically, anything can be made into "healthy" food. Feel free to ask me for any advice, but a basic rule is add veggies, cut fat, limit sodium!

Congratulations on passing up the hot dog dinner for something healthy! I know how hard that can be. It's also wonderful that you want to set a good example for your daughter. Keep up the good work!
