Catching Up

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

I've had a whirlwind week! emoticon So I thought I'd post about it, so my friends could know what's up.

Last week, Steve got a new (additional) job; he started on Friday. So now, he works 8 am - 5 pm Monday - Thursday building hot rod parts, and 6 am - 6:30 pm Friday, Saturday, Sunday doing all kinds of different machining (medical, aerospace, weapons, etc). So it's likely that most of my weekends will be similar to this past weekend:

5 AM emoticon Wake up, make breakfast, and take him to work.
6:30 AM (ish) emoticon Go back to sleep for a couple of hours
10 AM (ish) emoticon Get back up, workout, and complete to do lists and tasks.
6 PM emoticon Pick him up from work, make dinner, and help him relax.
9 PM emoticon Bedtime again!

I've been struggling with some guilt that I am not getting a second job as well. The extra money could really help us to get ahead. But then I realized that, when it comes down to it, I need to be available to help and support him with working so much. I can't prepare meals and clean house if I'm working too much. And with his jobs being so physically demanding, he really needs me to be 100% so that I can rub his feet and hands or whatever else he might need. So when it comes down to it, taking care of him and maintaining our household is my FIRST job, and my day job is my second job!

So, I plan on making Saturdays all about housework - cleaning, doing laundry, organizing, etc. - and Sundays all about preparing for the week ahead - going to the grocery store, batch cooking, etc. I'm sure I'll also use some of this time for hanging out with friends and other things, too, but these are my priorities.

Luckily, both Steve and I had Monday off of work together. So we slept in some (which was great for him adjusting to this new schedule) and then spent the entire day running errands and getting the things he needed for the new job.

The other thing that has made the last week a little nuts is I was summoned for jury duty and had to report on Friday. After a whole lot of "hurry up and wait," we finally found out that 200 people had been summoned to try to fill the jury for one major criminal case. I was not immediately dismissed, so had to go back yesterday for further proceedings. I made it through to the very last round of jurors but was excused from the jury in the final cut. I was a little disappointed because it seemed like it was going to be an interesting case, but then again, the trial was also expected to last 3 weeks, so that would have thrown a kink in all of my plans for the coming weeks.

Anyway, despite all the craziness, I have stuck to the C25K program and done fairly well on my food choices (although Thursday night, we went out to celebrate the new job and I went WAY over my calories). I feel like the new job will likely help me to stay focused on maintaining my schedule and healthy habits. I always seem to do better when our schedules are super busy... I guess it's easier to force yourself to stick to it when you know you won't have time later.

I hope everyone has been doing well!

Congrats on keeping everything together for you hubby. It seems like sometimes my hubby and I are headed in different directions and we just work a full time job a piece. We do have young children in our home so that keeps us pretty busy.

I wish you all the best. Keep on keeping on
