According to the TOPS scale I lost 1-1/2 pounds this week. It's not a large amount, but I'm very excited about it. The weight I lost was in spite eating out four times last week, and not being able to exercise regularly because of my knee.
My birthday was last week and there was a lot of celebrating going on that always seems to revolve around food. Monday night a friend wanted to take me to Applebees for dinner. Tuesday after TOPS some of us go out for dinner and a TOPS friend paid for my dinner. Wednesday we had a family dinner at Olive Garden for mine and my niece's birthdays. Then, Saturday another friend took me out for a chinese dinner.
I did my homework ahead of time and I had a plan of action. I checked out restaurant nutrition menus online first and decided what to have. On the days that I went out for dinner I planned to have a light breakfast and lunch, and save most of my calories for dinner. For example, on Monday I had a 100 calorie Yoplait Yogurt Parfait for breakfast, and Progresso Italian Meatball soup for lunch. There are only 160 calories in the whole can. I enjoyed a Quesadilla Burger at Applebees for dinner without feeling guilty because I was still within my calorie range for the day. I used the same strategy for the other days that I ate dinner out, light breakfast and lunch, and saved most of my calories for dinner. By the way, no big birthday cake with lots of tempting leftovers, just one cupcake on Tuesday.
I know that's probably not the best thing to do. My calories should be spread out fairly even during the day over my meals and a snack, but at least it's not something I do all of the time. Last week was an exception for my birthday. Everyone says that if you stay within your Spark People calorie range you will lose weight. Everyone is right, whoever everyone is. My success this week gives me motivation to do better next week.
