Rewards for maintenance?????????

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

Hello everyone!
As part of my journey in weight loss, I would give myself rewards for pounds lost....a new haircut, outfit, etc. Now, that it is going on almost 2 yrs. at goal, I am wondering if I should give myself rewards as time passes.... I know what some of you are thinking....Isn't being at goal reward enough????? I would have thought the same thing during my journey... Yes, being healthy IS reward enough!!!! I LOVE having healthy cholesterol numbers! I LOVE being able to run! I LOVE wearing single digit clothes! I LOVE sharing clothes with my skinny teenage daughters! emoticon Still, just as I believe in challenging myself with non-weight goals...running a half, attempting a sprint tri, etc. I also think I should reward myself at each major milestone along my maintenance journey...Now, the question is...what should it be???? A new outfit, weekend away, etc? I think that I have come up with the perfect thing to reward myself when I hit 2 yrs..... Entrance into a half marathon!!!!!!! My question for you is....what would your reward be????????/ emoticon

When I reach my goal weight my reward to myself will be a trip to France. I'm already learning the language in preparation. I think you might enjoy the same type of thing. After all now you have the energy to explore any type of vacation spot you would love to visit. I can just imagine you climbing the steps of a Mexican temple or hiking a mountain trail. The world's out there, give yourself a reward every year and go explore it!

I am planning on getting new workout shoes in a bright color. I think we should reward time milestones in maintenance.

Enjoy finding your rewards! emoticon

Love shopping . . . but not necessarily buying. It's great fun to just try on. Thrift stores are great . . . so too etsy.com and ebay.com for super finds.

Clothes and nice haircuts and highlights. I used to dread clothes shopping and now I love it! I also find that I take a lot more pride in my appearance now than I did when I was obese and enjoy experimenting with clothes, hair and makeup a whole lot more.

My reward would be either cycling bib tights or a nice jersey.

Mine would be....a spa day, highlights in my hair, hiring a photographer to do a photo shoot of just me (well...I might let the family join in), or buying a really nice decoration for the house - something that just feels rewarding everytime I walk by it!

I absolutely believe in rewarding yourself for maintaining. I used to reward myself for reaching milestones in weight loss. The problem is the one you have. It doesn't work for the rest of your life.

I now use behaviors a s a way to reward my growth. I then am rewarding the things I am learning and growing and changing and not some random number on a scale.

Your race is a great reward or challenge for you depending on what you need to have to feed your happiness.

Enjoy.

You absolutely should do rewards for maintaining! After reaching my goal weight, I started putting weight back on and I believe a big part of that was that I no longer set goals for myself. So, having a goal (like maintaining another month or 6 months...) helps and definitely deserves a reward.

I always struggle to pick rewards for myself, so I can't answer your question yet; but, I will do it.

I love your HM entry one!

Hmmm, gives me an idea!! I am at the beginning of maintenance so I think I am gonna try this...put 5 dollars away for each week I am at my goal weight. After one year (or maybe 2) I will see what I have accumulated and hit the CAbi outlet store in Livermore OR have a CAbi party and GO TO TOWN!!!! I don't splurge on much, but this is one weakness I have. Thanks for the putting the thought in my little head :)

I hope when my girl reaches her teens that I can share clothes with her. Dang, she already is close to sharing my shoes (size 7 at 9 years old).
