Cough drops - never thought about it

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

As probably with most people, when I get coughing sick I need to turn to cough medicines and cough drops. It was not until after I went to the store to get more cough drops and saw "sugar free" cough drops when I thought about the "sugar" calories in cough medicines and cough drops. Granted when you are sick you probably don't care to think about losing weight, but it was just a thought I had about how many calories I consumed just from those items.

Mmm, that's certainly something to consider when tracking calories emoticon

When I was in junior high school we used to carry Luden's Wild Cherry Cough Drops with us because they tasted good and the school had a policy about not having candy (but medicine was OK). Many medicines have a sugar syrup base (now probably corn syrup) to disguise the bitter taste of the active ingredient(s).

Yes. They also make NyQuil for diabetics. I have not tried because I hate cough medicine but I got a bottle for my partner a few weeks ago.
