Garlic. Leeks. Onion.

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

Take that, flu! Not that I have the flu, thankfully. But I have a potato leek soup cooking in the crockpot & those are all immune boosting ingredients. Except maybe the potatoes . . . but they're not the villains they're painted as & yes, I love me some taters.

It was supposed to be chili because the temp is struggling to get out of the single digits, but since DH isn't a veggie chili guy I decided to take pity on him. And then there will be more soup for me!

Grief hits in strange moments, like when I wa chopping up the veggies. Simba always came into the kitchen when I was chopping anything because he just assumed it was for him. No, he didn't like onions; his odd tastes didn't extend that far, which is good, because onions aren't good for cats. But he always came. And demanded.

Grief is too strong a word really; now it's just sadness that hits at odd times thru outthe day.

So anyway. Can somebody explain to me why we only seem to have sunny days when it's too damn cold to enjoy them?

What immune boosting foods are you enjoying these days?

YUM THAT SOUPS SOUNDS FANTASTIC. I LOVE ME SOME TATER'S TOO GIRL.
I WOULD HAVE TO DEFINITELY SAY MY FAVE IMMUNE BOOSTING FOODS ARE GARLIC AND ONION AND PEPPERS.... HOT PEPPERS.
THAT IS TRULY SAD - MY SOLOMON IS ALWAYS BY MY SIDE SITTING WATCHING ME CHOP STUFF - WAITING FOR SOMETHING HE CAN EAT. I WOULD MISS IT TOO. I AM SO SORRY YOU ARE GOING THROUGH THIS.

Sorry for your sadness. I think anyone who's loved an animal understands. I *still* miss my Reba-cat, and the sadness hits at more spaced-out intervals now (though more random as well, too).

..........

and yes: GO GARLIC!

Do you grow garlic? I often do, but didn't plant any this year...

.......

Stay warm in this crazy-cold weather~!

YUM!! I love potatoes, too :-)
Malika comes running in if I open a can of anything even though the wet cat food has pull tops. I was opening some beans last night and she demanded a smell...then looked at me like I was insane. Hey, she asked.

I know it's not as cold here as it is for you, but it has been sunny and cold or cloudy and warmer. The clouds hold the heat in from what I remember from my meteorology class.

Your soup sounds good! My husband is the opposite of yours. He would eat the chili but wouldn't eat the soup with garlic & onions. He is going out of town next week so I think I will make that while he is gone.

Sorry for the loss of your cat. We have always had dogs and it is very sad when one passes away.
