This past weekend was a 3-day weekend, and it was a fairly busy one - not normal for us! First, I skipped my workout Friday after work. I dont really remember why - so I probably dont have any excuses. But I did stop at the commissary to pick up a few things and made a healthy dinner! It looks all fancy - it was the daily recipe emailed to me from Myrecipes.com. Some sort of balsamic chicken with peppers and shallots. Mmm. yummy! We finally got my blu-ray player hooked up to my tv and internet and now I have netflix too so I am really excited about that.
Saturday morning I decided to head to Sports Authority and see if I could get a new pair of running sneakers since I had a 20% off coupon - but it was only good at the store furthest away from my house - figures. But I trekked out there, tried on a ton of shoes and thought I found the right pair. So I bought them for a whole $43 and then headed to the gym to get in a treadmill run (even though the weather was beautiful... *sigh*). So glad I decided on the treadmill. The shoes ended up being awful. They fit fine in the store, but about a mile into my run, it felt like part of the shoe was digging into my right foot, and of course they caused me a bunch of shin pain as well. I fought through it until the 2 mile mark and then gave up. It was way too painful to keep going :( And I was pretty bummed because this was the 2nd pair of shoes I bought that didnt work out. I looked into returning them, but the receipt said they could only be returned if they were un-used. The problem with buying them from Sports Authority and not a legit running store. So I decided to deal with it later. I dont really remember what I did on Saturday the rest of the day, but around 6pm, J picked me up and we went out to dinner with some friends, and then to the movies. We saw Zero Dark Thirty, and OMG it was so good. I would totally watch it again. The movie started around 8ish, which is pretty late for us, but it kept me interested the entire time (I have a tendency to fall asleep in the movie theater!).
Sunday morning we went out for bagels, and then I headed to another Sports Authority closer to my house to try to return my sneakers. Since I had only worn them on the treadmill and not outside, you could not tell they had actually been work so I was able to return them, thankfully. I looked around the store - they had a better running sneaker selection, and I must have tried on like 20 pairs, while pulling up information about each sneaker on my iphone to determine which sneaker was made for people like me (high arches). Finally, I settled on a pair of Asics Kayana 18 that fit wonderfully! I purchased them (and did not get a 20% discount because this store didnt have that promotion running) and hoped for the best. After I got back home, J picked me up and we went to one of our friends' houses for a football party. The guy hosting the party works on our base and runs the fitness testing. We have become pretty good friends with him over the past year so it was nice to attend a party at his house. There was a ton of food, I logged everything, but definitely went over my calories. Especially because after we left there, we went to sushi for dinner with two of J's friends, and then played video games. It was kind of a guy's night so I am not sure how I ended up there, but I did learn how to play Halo and Medal of Honor...hmmm... I think I'll stick to Mario Kart ;)
Sunday morning we went to Ihop for breakfast (my breakfast addiction!) and then I went for a run. It was such a beautiful day, I had to go outside for a run. I went to the base closest to my house and did 2 miles. It was great! I kept an 11:05 avg pace (which is faster than my treadmill runs of 12 min pace) and my new shoes felt fantastic!! I think I have finally gotten the right running sneakers for me! After my run I went to Joanns fabrics to buy more fabric for some projects I am working on (ipad case and a wristlet!) and then I had to take Buffy to the vet. She had a discloration under her chin that I finally decided needed to be checked out. When I got there it also turned out she needed 2 additional vaccines that she didnt get while in NJ. The discloration was a healed scab so nothing to worry about. However, Buffy had a reaction to one of the vaccines she received about 2 hours after we got home. She wasnt feeling well, she was favoring her leg (where she got her shot), and she was all shaky. I was so worried about her and spent all night cuddling with her, so I didnt really get any sleep.
Yesterday morning when I got to work I had to take my SOS test (military education). It was the first of three, and I passed! Only 2 more to go... I think I will start studying for the next one beginning next week. I was super busy all day at work yesterday, and then after work I went to the gym and rode 10 miles on the stationary bike in 40 minutes. Not bad! I had it on the random hills setting at level 5. It was a good workout, but I noticed it is really hard to get my heart rate up on the stationary bike. The first 10-15 minutes I couldnt get it over 132! Oh well..good workout, and I am not sore today. It is another beautiful day here in Colorado (gotta take it when you can during the winter) so I am planning an outdoor run after work. And then I have to go home and pack because J and I are leaving for our ski weekend after work tomorrow night! So excited, but I still need to make Buffy boarding reservations, and make myself a reservation for a massage on Saturday! I also need to make sure I get in my workouts this weekend too. The resort we are going to should have a nice fitness center - since I dont plan on skiing. :)
