Loose Skin-What to do?

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

As I am losing weight, I have lots of loose skin. I will admit that although I have got the healthy eating down, I lack on the exercise and am starting to make positive changes with that. I have questions for those who have lost a substancial amount of weight. Did exercising make a big difference in helping the loose skin? I am thinking that as you develop muscles, it would make the loose skin look better. I know there is cosmetic surgery that some people get to help that but I doubt I would ever be able to afford that. I would like to hear from those who are dealing with the excess skin after losing weight and if there is some advice you can give me that might help me with minimizing the loose skin or at least making it look a little better. Also, if you had the cosmetic surgery, are you glad that you had it done?

I lost 150 between April 2010 and June 2012. I have loose skin in my tummy, arms, and upper legs. My doctors have all told me to live ith it or have surgery. At 66, there is no way we could afford for me to have the surgery, so I'll live with it. I just started belly dancing this past week and I'm hoping it will help that flab onthe tummy disappear.

I have loose skin on my upper arms and my neck especially. Most of my stomach loose skin has gone. I told my doctor "Look at my arms" What can I do with this loose skin. He said either live with it or have it cut off and said just think that used to be filled with fat so I guess I'd rather have loose skin than fat. I am 83 so guess I'll live with it.

Yes! I reached goal almost a year ago after losing nearly 100 pounds (I've also lost and regained hundreds of pounds over the course of my life!) and I've seen a big difference with my loose skin in the past year with consistent exercise, especially strength training, drinking lots of water and moisturizing. It's not perfect and I still have quite a bit on my stomach but it's a vast improvement and I finally feel comfortable wearing sleeveless shirts again because my arms in particular have toned up nicely.

I am the same as you. I can keep my eating in check, but not real crazy about the exercise part, though I am working on it.

I have heard that exercise, especially ST does help with that. I have also heard to lose slowly. I have also heard to give it time. I have lost about 65 so far. I am maybe half way there. I am a bit concerned about my mid section but for now, I will keep on keeping on.

Best of luck to you on your journey!

No surgery for me! The tummy skin was nasty after I lost 100 lbs., but slowly it has been shrinking, as i keep exercising and have held steady for 18 months. Even at my age, skin retains some elasticity, bu.t it takes time and patience.

Look at my before and after pictures. The only thing I had tucked was my tummy. I've lost 241 pounds and they removed 24 pounds there. Exercising and moisturizing really work! Drink lots of water and lose slowly.
