Getting ready for the cold. I have to drive back for staples removal.

DH will have the staples removed tomorrow, I am hoping there is no ice between us and the garage.
I have decided if there is I am going to put my runner from the Kitchen outside to cover the ice. The runner is in front of the atrium door leading to the pool area. When the grands or friends come they usually open that door and they drip on the runner. I can just lift it up and walk across the deck it is the 10 feet or so to the garage that bothers me.
Cold is no problem but I will start the engine so DH can get in to a warm vehicle when he shivers it is really painful in his incision. Our small development has not been well plowed and no sand either. Money issues of course in the city.
To get to the highway which I feel confident will be cleared we have to drive over the equivalent of an ice rink. The sun shone on it today and it was like a mirror. I hope they will sand for the school buses but there may not be any school, we shall see. There are 5 stop signs so stop and start and we can not stop or start without skidding. We have lived here over 40 years so we are quite used to it but as it gets bigger there are more stop signs people just ignore,
I was sitting at the one before the highway and I saw a car with blinking light and I knew it was too fast so I stopped a long way back from the highway. The car skidded across the road and hit the front of my car it crumbled but the air bag did not deploy.
A young woman got out and she said she was sorry, then she said I should move my car but I said no way I have called the police. She moved her car but I would not. I began to shake I had been on my way to the hospital for a colonoscopy so the shock and no food was really a challenge.
The police arrived and he came over to my car, I was shaking and the other woman was fussing. The policeman said I should go to the hospital I explained I had an appointment there already. He said I should wait for an ambulance but I had fasted and I was going to my appointment.
I went and I had an escort it is only 5 minutes to the hospital. I went and had my colonoscopy. DH had to work so he was going to take me home when he was called and then back to work. It worked out fine.
I had to go to the police station afterwards to write my report.
The Woman who crashed in to me was the wife of COMMISSIONER OF INSURANCE and his wife had not been quite honest. She said I was at the stop sign and she skidded in to me on the ice.
She was going way too fast, she never mentioned that.
I went home and brought my camera and I photographed the red and amber plastic from my lights. I had a tape measure and we photographed it stretching from the stop sign to almost 50 feet back from the sign.
I took it to the police and showed them the pictures they came back to the scene. The plastic was still in the ice at the side of the road. The pictures verified my story and the policeman who wanted to send me in the ambulance said the lady said I backed up. NO WAY!
Some days you have to cover your rear and that day I did it well.
I had no points on my insurance or license and their insurance paid for our damages.
I no longer leave by that route, I have been there done that and avoid that corner in the winter months.
DH is really anxious to get the staples out and have them look at his incision, am too. We made the appointment for afternoon so we will have the road well traveled and back home in daylight.
Another adventure for DH and I
HUGS Pat in cold Maine.
