Every now and again one of my kids totally, totally surprises me. Today, it was my youngest, when he asked me, quite out of the blue, if we could go to the art museum this evening. I'm surprised my jaw isn't still stuck to the floor. Then, taking my silence for reluctance, he tried some bargaining and said to me, "How about if I write a report about it afterwards?"
Be still my heart!
So, striking while the iron was hot, I drove to the art museum this evening. He took the map they provided and planned out our route. First stop - the Aphrodite exhibit! (He just finished reading D'Aulaire's Book of Greek Myths.)
After that, we toured Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome, spend quite a bit of time in Latin America, and also the Far East. By the time we were getting to American art, I admit it, I was totally exhausted. My feet were killing me, as was my funky arthritic hip. I all but begged him to call it a night, and he agreed.
We spent 2 1/2 hours walking around the building. Not strenuous exercise by any means, but if I had stayed home, my only exercise would have been walking the dog (which I did anyway, after we got home). I think I owe Danny one for upping my exercise by a large amount.
