Time for my physical!

Tuesday, January 22, 2013

I have an appointment for my annual physical first thing in the morning! Well, second or third thing, really but still very early! I'm grateful it's early because they asked me to come in fasting. I don't do well without breakfast. And this office is soooo slllooooowwwww. emoticon With any luck being an early appointment means they won't be so far behind schedule.

I plan on asking her if the goal weight I have in mind is actually a reasonable goal for me. I just figured out what the upper and lower weights for a healthy BMI at my height are and took the number in the middle. Seemed reasonable to me. I also want to ask her to confirm I'm okay to run. I do have asthma, severe sinus problems, and tendonitis in both knees. But my knees are feeling a lot better since I've taken 45 lbs off of them!

I'll be with my daddy so 50/50 shot he'll want to go to Costco for a hot dog after my appointment. If he insists on having lunch out, I'll try to push for Subway or something else health-friendly. Those Costco hot dogs are almost 2 meals worth of fat and carbs!

I think your doctor will be glad to see the progress you've made, and hopefully s/he will be able to give you some good feedback on your goals.

Here's an idea for you: bring a healthy snack or portable breakfast (like a piece of fruit) with you to the appointment. Ask if you can have the blood test done as soon as you get there, even if you have to wait afterwards for the appointment. Then wash your hands well and step outside for a few minutes to eat (so you're not eating in front of others who may have to fast as well). You'll have fasted for your test, you won't have to wait long afterwards to get healthy food into you (and have less of an impact on your metabolism), and if your father pushes you to eat out afterwards you won't make unhealthy choices because you won't be starving. If you can bring a cooler and leave it in the car, you can even bring along your own food for lunch no matter what your father chooses for his meal.
