Well last Friday was the big day. My husband Eric, Jared and I got up real early Friday morning to have him at the hospital by 6:30am. When it was time, I was allowed to walk with him while he was being rolled into the operating room. The ride down, he cried the whole time. The nurses then moved him from the stretcher to the operating table and proceeded to put the gas mask on him. At that time he asked me to pray for him and or course I did..while praying he was crying and then asleep. Walking out of that room knowing your child is in there and there is nothing you can do but wait it the worst feeling in the world.
Finally after 3 hours the surgery was over and my hubby and I were taken to see him in recovery. The rest of Friday did not go so bad due to all the meds he was on. But the days to follow was not so good. He was in so much pain, nothing they did or gave him worked and to top it off, the doctor who did the surgery was not on call this weekend which caused my son to have 2 panic attacks.
Then last night things changed for the better. His surgeon found out that he was still in the hospital. At this point, Jared stopped eating from being so sick to his stomach, no peeing and in a lot of pain and another anxiety attack. At 7:30 he was given Ativan to calm him down and by 8pm Jared fell asleep. By 8:15 his doctor came in and started to undress the cast to check the foot and that is when Jared woke up. When Jared realized that it was his doctor, at first he did not believe him but then he realized that it was true, his doctor was there.
By the time his doctor calmed him down, looked at this foot (which looked awesome), redressed it and bought him a huge roast beef hero, Jared was smiling, eating, happy and even took a pee...LOL. The doc then told him that he had to leave because he had office hours in the morning but he is not far if he needs him and left. Shortty after that, Jared fell fast asleep and woke up with very little pain, hungry and ready to go home.
Because this doctor took the time to spend with my son and treated him so respectfully, we were home by lunch time today. Now he is not in pain, eating, and watching one of his favorite movies. All I know. I am soooooooo glad to be home.
