Cold Weather Blues
Tuesday, January 22, 2013
The wind chill was -17 degrees today. Yikes! That is nose-sticking weather (when you blow your nose your nostrils stick together). So, instead of three long walks with Cooper today, we are taking four really short walks. I had to pick him up and scrape the ice out from between his toe pads on two of our walks. I also took a short walk without him. It is just too cold out there for me. When we come back in all Cooper wants to do is curl up in my lap, or crawl up under my sweatshirt and snuggle into the warmth of my chest.
I haven't had to turn my heat back on yet, though. I guess that tells you how hot everyone else in my building keeps their apartments! I am really liking living on the third floor... it cuts way down on my heating bill, especially compared to when I lived in the basement.
I definitely pulled something in my groin yesterday, so I am taking the rest of the week off from the gym, and sticking with walking, rowing, and light ST that I can so at home. I might go snowshoeing on Saturday, but only if the tenderness is gone. It will be good conditions for snowshoeing though, so I am hoping it has healed a bit by Saturday.
I canceled my lunch date today due to the weather, and my dad drove me to my appointment this afternoon, as well as to the grocery store to pick up a few things. I was just as happy to let him drive. The roads are icy and quite slippery, and it is his truck... if there is an accident while he is driving I won'y feel as guilty as if I would if I were driving.
So, my challenge from Sparkcoach today was to eat on a schedule. I already tend to do that. The only difference is that on days I go to the gym I eat half my lunch before I go and half (the protein rich part) when I get home again. I tend to eat fairly lightly in the mornings, so I don't feel bogged down and sluggish when I go to the gym. I also schedule a snack before bed, so I don't waking up starving in the middle of the night and do some mindless snacking.
Well, this weather is supposed to get worse before it gets better, with winds, cpld temps and more snow through tomorrow, so Cooper and I will be doing short walks again tomorrow. Stay warm and safe everyone! (Frostbite is a bad thing.)
