This morning I was into my music and into my elliptical workout when suddenly I was aware of a round wrinkled face with bright white hair, mouth moving, in what I considered my personal space. I slipped the left earpiece out and he repeated, "Are you trying to commit suicide?"
I was stunned and uncertain. Then he smiled. I assured the frail man, who had to be 85 years old, that on the contrary, I was working to live a long, healthy life. In fact, I bragged, I'm a runner and this is an easy workout for me. Satisfied, he wandered off.
He came back, though, when I was finished to check out my workout statistics on the machine. I guess I should be honored. Acknowledgement comes in a lot of different forms.
