Hi, everyone. Is it just me, or has January been a really tough month? I started the month feeling really energetic and hopeful and that spirit has just seemed to leave me as the month moves forward. I know that most of this is mental - my husband's health has weighed heavily on me recently. He had a liver biopsy earlier in the month and the results were less than positive. Additionally, he's had a bug for a few weeks now and even a round of antibiotics hasn't helped. I married him knowing full well that we would face health hurdles (if you read my earlier blog about his upcoming book release, it shares a bit more about his condition, but in sum, he's a severe hemophiliac with an HIV-HCV coinfection). I'm strong and I know I can do this, I just need to find some inner strength and a positive outlook. Have you faced similar challenges in your life? If so, how did you get through them?
We were in Richmond over the weekend attending an event sponsored by the Virginia Hemophilia Foundation. It included watching the "Bad Blood" documentary and a panel discussion with Ryan White's mother. It was tough and I'm feeling especially deflated today. I know this will pass and that I'll find motivation. Motivation to get my fitness level back up, motivation to clean my house, and motivation to simply make progress on some front. In the meantime, I'm just taking small, manageable steps. I know I can do it! That said, here is where I'm at with my monthly goals:
1) Strength train at least 3x per week
ON TRACK. I HAD 4 ST SESSIONS IN WEEK ONE, 3 IN WEEK 2, AND 3 IN WEEK 3.
2) Achieve a minimum of 2,000 fitness minutes for the month
I'M STARTING TO SLIP HERE. AS OF YESTERDAY I HAVE 1,336 MINUTES FOR THE MONTH. EACH WEEK MY MINUTES HAVE DROPPED OFF SO I NEED TO CORRECT THAT TREND IN ORDER TO STAY ON TRACK.
3) Take at least 10,000 steps per day 5x per week
GOAL WILL NOT BE MET. I ACHIEVED THIS GOAL FOR WEEKS 1 AND 3 BUT MISSED IT IN WEEK 2.
4) Lose at least 2 pounds this month
ON TRACK. I'M GUESSING THAT THIS MONTH'S WEIGHT LOSS OF ALMOST 4 POUNDS IS LIKELY STRESS RELATED.
1) Drink no more than 10 diet sodas for the month
THIS IS DEFINITELY BEHIND. I'VE ALREADY HAD 9 DIET SODAS SO FAR THIS MONTH AND I STILL HAVE 10 DAYS TO GO!
2) Track all food and stay within range for at least 29 days this month
ON TRACK. I'VE STAYED WITHIN RANGE 20 OF 21 DAYS SO FAR.
1) Put at least $250 in savings each pay day (there are 2)
ON TRACK. I'VE HAD ONE PAYDAY SO FAR AND PUT MONEY INTO SAVINGS AS PLANNED.
2) Get the house more organized (clean out closets and donate what we don't want, clean cabinets, book shelves, etc)
I STARTED OFF THE MONTH WITH A BANG BUT HAVE MADE NO PROGRESS SINCE. I HAVE A GOODWILL DONATION READY TO DROP OFF AND NEED TO TAKE CARE OF THAT THIS WEEK.
3) Have at least 10 random acts of kindness/pay it forward actions
THIS IS ALSO BEHIND. I'VE HAD 4 RAK THIS MONTH SO FAR AND HAVE 2 MORE PLANNED. I NEED TO BE MORE THOUGHTFUL ABOUT THIS AS IT'S TRULY SOMETHING THAT MAKES ME FEEL GREAT!
