I'm Still Here.

Tuesday, January 22, 2013

I just wanted to post something real quickly to let everyone know that I'm still here. I have just had a very turbulent week with lots of unexpected things going on. I will tell more when I can.

I did want to write about a cool experience this week though. I have been attending a swimming class each Wednesday morning for several weeks now. I have a teacher who has worked one on one with me since the first time I went trying to teach me how to properly swim. She is emoticon! I have never had a class instructor at a gym care as much as she does. She is really cool though, and I have definitely enjoyed getting to know her. She even invited my DH and me to try out her family's church, which we did last weekend, and it was a very positive experience. It's neat when others are out there helping us along the way to go down this journey. Especially when they have had a similar past. When I swim in her class, and I struggle for breath (even still after being quit for nearly a whole year from smoking), she says to me, "remember what this feels like. Remember it forever, so that if the urge ever comes back to you to smoke, you can reflect on this and how far you have come." She used to smoke 2 packs a day.

I have some really neat class instructors who make working out a fun part of life rather than some monontonous chore. I wish everyone could have that kind of experience. The gym where I work out is really good about having a variety of body-types teaching the classes. This makes me feel so much more comfortable. I have only had one "Barbie Doll" teach a class who had a really bad attitude towards people with weight issues. All of the rest have been very cool, and encouraging, even if they do look like Barbie! One of the teachers for the swim classes has been on a weight loss journey for two years, and lost 60+ pounds already. It's inspiring to gain fitness knowledge from others who are right there with you. This is another reason I love sparkpeople so much! Who knew there was such a great network out there?! emoticon Anyway, hope all is well with everyone! Have a sparktacular week!

I have to admit, I struggle with breathing when I swim too, and I was never a smoker. Small lung capacity. :D I'm glad she's taking so much time to help you - she sounds fantastic! I hope your next week is better.
