Missed mid-month update by THIS much

Tuesday, January 22, 2013

I had really wanted to post an update blog every couple of weeks, but I missed my mid-month marker by about a week!

C'est la vie!

So far, I've managed to track ALL foods on MOST days...but during the Leadership Academy, I missed my mark. I've been cooking at home and packing lunches MOST days, but again, the Leadership Academy and Chicago trip messed up my routine last week!

So I'm calling myself about 90% on eating healthy goals. I'm going to keep focusing on eating healthy....and despite the 20+ hours I had to work this weekend (fixing database issues is NOT my forte, but it must be done!) I managed to do a lot of cooking! So I have two kinds of hummus, refried beans, potato and leek soup, caramellized leek soup, lentil soup, split pea soup, tortilla soup, and navy bean soup safely stored and frozen for easy consumption!

I felt a little silly making so much soup on Saturday, but I'm glad I did. Let me tell you about Indiana weather....it's UNPREDICTABLE! Saturday was in the 50s, but by Sunday it was back to freezing. And today, on my way to work, it was 9 degrees outside. So now I'm REALLY glad I made all that soup, it will be so nice to have a nice warm bowl with half a grilled cheese for dinner tonight!

As for fitness...I'm getting back on track with cardio. I haven't hit my goals on running (in terms of weekly miles) but I continue to plug away. And I knew it would be slow getting back into it, but I'll keep moving forward! Zumba and dancing....well, I've had more trouble getting back into the swing of things there, but I've gotten in a few dance workouts, my DVDs have arrived, and aside from a trip to Indy tomorrow (which will be MUCH easier than last week's traveling!) I'll be staying in town until after Valentine's Day...so I should be able to start getting back into a solid routine!

Running has been erratic. Last Saturday, it was in the 50s and sunny....I managed to get in about 6.5 miles on the Heritage trail, in shorts and a T-shirt! Sunday, it was back to freezing...then rain and hail and freezing rain and thawing...this Saturday, back up in the 50s again, but the Heritage trail was covered in ice, mud, and water, so I only made it 3.5 miles.

Finally, ST and yoga/stretching. Wellll.....haven't been doing it! After cardio I'm tired, and occasionally sore....all the usual excuses = I've been lazy and neglected a pretty critical part of what I need to do! Getting in 1-2 exercises and stretches here and there isn't good enough. So this will be my main focus for the rest of the month....I WILL ST and stretch EVERY DAY!!

All of your soups sound awesome. I think I will look for a potato leek soup recipe, that's one of my favorites.

Keep up the hard work, 90% compliance is great for eating! Keep making the extra effort at increasing cardio. It was 11 degrees on my drive into work yesterday (Cleveland) so I totally hear you about the weather.

Have a good day!

So it's your fault we went from 60 to 13 since Sunday! Yup, we're about 24 hours behind you in most weather. Post up some of those soup recipes, I've tried some of your ideas and am never disappointed.

I know what you mean about this Indiana weather! Its a roller coaster! I suppose it is what we get for living in the Midwest. Sounds like you have your choice of soup already made and ready to go! Definitely a nice thing to have when it is 9 degrees! Sounds like you are doing pretty well if you say 90% with all of your crazy travel schedules. The hardest time is when we get out of routine and you seem to have done about as well as you could expect!

That is a good focus for the rest of the month to get back in on ST and Yoga. I did yoga today actually and I always feel good after doing it. It will help with working out that soreness and prevent it from next time! I wish you the best for getting it in every day!
