Since I was off work today, I finally had a chance to try the beginner's low Zumba class at the health club. I figured that would be the right beginning for me, and I was right.
The crowd consisted mainly of women in their 50s and up. The instructor spotted me right away as a new participant, welcomed me and asked my name. She was really nice, none of that attitude that some fitness instructors have.
I brought my towel and water bottle, and I needed both. The nice thing about the class was that there were mini breaks between the songs; just a few seconds, long enough to get a drink and get ready for the next song.
I was surprised how well I did. I worked up a sweat, but I did not get exhausted. The steps came pretty easy to me; I guess all the jazz exercise and dance classes in the 80s and the line dancing in the 90s helped out. Muscle memory.
Anyway, I thanked the instructor at the end. Then I had enough energy to swim a little after cooling down and taking a nice shower. Great workout, I actually had fun. I think I'm almost ready to try the full length regular Zumba class. If I build up my endurance just a bit more with swimming, I think I'll be able to go to an hour long class next.
