"BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD" has won prizes at the Cannes Film Festival and the Sundance Film Festival. I don't usually like this kind of 'Drama/Fantasy" Movie, but I think I am going to see this one.
The lead character - 9 year old Quvenzhane Wallis ( i hope I spelled that right!!) was the Youngest EVER Nominee for Best Actress this year at the Oscars. Her father is played by another newcomer, Dwight Henry. He owned a Bakery across the street where they were doing auditions for the movie. He had never acted before, as far as I can find out.
When her Father is struck down by a mysterious illness Hushpuppy (Wallis) sets out on a Journey to save him. She is hindered by a "Busted Universe" which releases prehistoric beasts - The Auroch.
If you have seen the movie I'd love to hear what you thought of it. I am hoping to see it this weekend. Then I will let you know what I think. I will leave you with Hushpuppy's speech in the closing scene of the movie.
"When it all goes quiet behind my eyes I see everything that made me flying around in invisible pieces. When I look too hard, it goes away. And when it all goes quiet, I see that they are right here. I see that I am a little piece in a Big, Big Universe. And that makes things right. When I die the Scientists of the Future, they're gonna find it all. They gonna know: Once there was a Hushpuppy, and she live with her Daddy in the bathtub".
