11 Week Recap

Monday, January 21, 2013

11 weeks ago I started changing my life.

Making positive choices.

Focusing on hitting my daily net calorie target each day.

And most importantly, changing my brain.

It is all about the brain change.

You know that, right?

That's what *I* had to learn.

:: WEIGHT

11 weeks, 14.75 kilograms lost so that...mmm... carry the 1... multiply by the square root of time... divided by how much wood a woodchuck could chuck...
in pounds that's 32.5 pounds for you feet and pounds folks.

That's an average of 1.34kg/week or about 3 pounds per week.

My plan is for a 1 kilogram per week loss so I'm very pleased with this rate. The curve is getting closer to that rate as the weeks go on.

:: EXERCISE

I started things out being unable to do any walking whatsoever due to a painful foot condition called plantar fasciitis which I have in my right foot.
I decided to focus on stretching my feet and icing the right foot each day after I got home from work.
No exercise other than some push ups and crunches.
Specifically, no walking.
This was difficult because 2.5 years ago I could run and did interval training.
So it was hard.
But I focused on healing.

Now I'm walking on the treadmill daily.
And doing kettlebell swings.
And loving them.

Did I mention I just ordered a medicine ball and one of those agility ladders?

Yeah... I had some gift cards and ordered those today.
Looking forward to adding those to my workout regimen.

:: MINDSET

My mindset is focused and strong.
Not bragging here.
It's just the truth.

I'm working every day to stay mentally strong and focused.
And to create new "default" ways of thinking.

Things are going great.

Make it a great day!
Matt

    emoticon Matt. That is incredible weight loss. I've always been jealous that men lose faster than women. ;) I am most happy to hear about the 'brain change' because I, like you, believe that's where it all starts and ends. Keep up the GREAT work. emoticon emoticon emoticon

    I like the kettle balls too. I am thinking of starting my own collection at home. I will tell Her they are doorstops ... yeah, that's the ticket.

    Gotta love those kettlebells. A year ago, I got an injury to the metatarsal area of my right foot. What the doctor said to do about it was pretty much what she had me do about plantar fasciitis a few years ago.

What I found was that the kettlebell exercises that left my feet in the same position - swings, cleans, snatches, squats - didn't bother the foot. I couldn't do Turkish getups for a while because the foot wouldn't support the lunge part; but if I did a snatch to mount the kettlebell, the foot didn't have a problem with windmills.

Life got a less frustrating when the foot got enough better to support TGUs and real pushups instead of the pushups on the ball I had been doing to keep the pressure off the foot. Then a whole lot less frustrating when I could consistently walk (and, later run) again.

It won't take forever to come back from plantar fasciitis, though it may feel like forever while you're on the road back.
