Tommy's Scan Results

Monday, January 21, 2013

We just got home from seeing Tommy's oncologist. The news was not as bad as it could have been, but still not good. The nodules in his lungs have gotten larger since his last scan and there are some new ones also. For this reason, he is starting back on chemo next Monday. He's going back on the Folfirinox treatments that he was on before so he'll be receiving treatments every other week.

Additionally, there is something going on with his liver, but not sure exactly what. She said there is some dilation of the biliary ducts, but his liver function tests were normal so the liver still appears to be draining okay. While dilated ducts can be indicative of a tumor blocking the duct, they can't see anything on the scan, only the enlarged duct. She said that if he starts having any pain, itching or appears to be getting jaundice we need to call her immediately. They are also going to follow up with regular liver function tests.

For now, we are continuing to enjoy every day and will begin planning a trip to the southwest in the spring. Tommy says the doctors will just have to work his treatments around vacation because he's going. I love his attitude!

I hope you all have a wonderful week. Thank you for all your prayers!

I will be praying for Tommy...I know how this feels to have a husband that you love so much and you have to watch him suffer with an illness...plus you don't want to break down because you love him so much and don't want to make him feel like he is a burden because he isn't but it is SO hard....I will keep praying for you both....keep the positive thoughts flowing....keep the prayers going!! God bless you both!!

Glad the news wasn't as bad as it could have been but sorry Tommy has to go back on chemo. At least if he has to do it this is the time of year when it's too cold outside to want to do anything. Prayers & hugs for both of you. You have a great support group here on Spark & it seems like you have a good medical team working with you, too. Keep us posted. emoticon emoticon

So glad to hear that the chemo vacation didn't result in a worse report. Time spent getting away and with family was probably much better medicine than folfirinox! (As planning a trip to the SW will probably be, too!)
You are in my prayers - both in my praises and petitions. God bless you both as you continue on this journey.

I'm so glad to hear that the news is good. I will continue to pray for you both. My father-in-law is still going down hill as I type this. We are very thankful for the time we have had with him and so glad he got to do his garden last summer. I will keep you posted and please do the same. I hate cancer it has hit my family hard. It takes living life to the fullest and it seems like you and Tommy have what it takes. Keep it positive and enjoy life!

    A cautious Hooray.......to you both!

The best medicine is to live your lives fully - as you always do. Be vigilant in your treatments ---- but, echoing Dodie....Can't wait to see your photos of the southwest! One of my favorite trips was to Sedona, AZ some years back, and to New Mexico..

Again - in my thoughts and in my prayers!

Big hugs,
Libby

    You both have magnificent attitudes:)

Very glad to hear the news wasn't as bad as feared. That is fantastic. It also sounds like you have a good medical team onside, which is crucial.

There is nothing like planning for a holiday to keep your spirits up. Not to mention, it will lift MY spirits up to look forward to your photos:)

Take care
Deirdre
