Still Going Crazy...

Monday, January 21, 2013

Yes, I'm STILL in a splint, and have another week to go.

My house looks like a landfill threw up in it! LOL

I haven't figured out how to get the full bag out of my trash can with just one hand... at least, not without tearing it or dumping it all over and having to start all over-- yes, I did that!--and I now have three free-standing trash bags ready to go but I can't pick them up! My linoleum floors haven't been swept or mopped in over a month, and I vacuumed until the canister was full, but I can't get it open to empty it--it's hard to do with TWO hands!... and though my one neighbor would like to help, she's deathly allergic to cats: she can handle about five minutes with just an antihistamine and migraine meds, but has an epi-pen for any prolonged exposure... the only other neighbor I could have asked moved out in the middle of the night ten days ago. I haven't been able to contact anyone at my church... I'm even still looking for someone to drive me to my colonoscopy next month... any volunteers? LOL

...I'm going a little crazy here! LOL

On the bright side, my one-handed typing skills have somewhat improved... Licorice has finished his meds and his fur is getting thicker, Isis lost about half a pound and has become very playful and lovey (she'd never been a lap cat before, but has suddenly become "velcro kitty!" lol), and Amigo is a little chubby boy--it suits him, and he too is all lovey--though NOT a lap cat! LOL

I can barely wait to get back to a "normal Kathy" lifestyle... patience is NOT my best virtue any more! LOL

Well, got to go see what I can make of today's physical therapy session. My shoulder is having a fit. I think it feels neglected, because I have to skip some of the exercises due to the fact that I can't grip the equipment, or pull, or do my wall exercises (like rows and shoulder rotations with an exercise band, wall slides and wall push-ups, pulleys... emoticon)

Still, the way I figure it, any day I wake up is a GOOD day!

Be well, dear friends!

    Wish I lived closer so that I could stop by and help out and give you a great big hug!!! I can't imagine having to do things with just one hand. I know I had a terrible time when I could only use one arm after our auto accident. I was just so thankful that I had Ken to help me...even with getting dressed. Glad the kitties are doimg well!!! You remain in my thoughts and prayers, dear one.

    Wow, sorry, reminds me of when I had my hand broken. Doctor didn't give me a sick-off it was my right hand, I was THE School Nurse (no one else to help me), contract didn't allow me to take leave during school term. It was the beginning of the school year.

    With your hand in plaster or splint you can NOT:
    * drive a car
    * cook
    * wash your hair
    * wash your cloth (I wash by hand)
    * write by hand

    and do a whole lot of other things....
    I would send you my house help , who comes once a week (one of the advantages of living in Africa, but then daily live takes so much more time than in Europe) and one of our drivers.

    Hope you manage to get your people from church to come & help you.

    Kathy, dear.....

    PLEASE get in touch with your church!!! That shouldn't be too hard.....and I'm sure someone will come out and help you put things in order and clean up.

    How much longer are you 'handicapped'?? I know how it is to be ill/handicapped - and to be alone...... It sucks big time! But as much as I hate! to ask for favors --- at times, I just have to.

    Can the doc's office arrange transport to & from your colonoscopy?

    Thinking of you.....as always......stay strong and use all your resources, luv.

    Hugs, BIG hugs.....

    People often don't realize about how challenging it is to live without a thumb. It sounds like you really need some help and that you have no support system there. I sure hope that you can get out of the splint and back to normal soon before things get any worse.

    I'm glad to hear that the kitties are doing well. And I hope you will join them soon!!

    Kathy, DO you live in an apartment building? Could you open your door and kind of kick/roll the bags to the dumpster? As far as the bag in the wastebasket, you might have to one-handedly transfer the icky trash from there to a new bag piece by piece until maybe half full, then one handed grab bag and tip it over into new bag??? I have had to do that after my surgery,, gross, but effective,, very time consuming if you are (haha) bored.

    I also one handed swept dirt on floors into little piles and used the vacuum hose to suck them up, spot cleaned with mop by basically mixing some murphys oil soap in a small bowl and whipping it on the floor and swabbing the mop around,, then turned the box fan on the whole thing to dry it quicker.. lots of exercise there!!
    Praying you get a ride to your colonoscopy(I had mine two days before Christmas!)
