Yesterday I did some strength training exercises during my break. Then I tried out a new, more difficult, zumba workout in the evening. I didn't have any trouble with either. Which made me feel really good. This morning I think I will try out a different EA Sports workout on my wii.
I'm back at work and it is kind of nice to get back into a routine. I don't think people talk about it much but no matter what you do, it feels good to work, to be useful in some way and have a place to go in the morning.
Some of my near and dear republicans have run by me a theory that the Newtown Shooting was a hoax. These are intelligent, even brilliant, people. Well, I suppose stranger things have happened. However, I would really hesitate to put any momentum behind the idea considering that there are real live grieving and heartbroken parents out there.
Today Barack Obama is getting inaugurated again. A near and dear republican of mine said that it was 'appropriate' that it be done on Martin Luther King Day. Then he laughed.
Yesterday I spoke to a lady who was telling me about having her son watch Roots. She was telling me that this generation doesn't understand what a struggle it was and that she wanted him to understand it. She also says that she thought it was great that we were all getting along so well these days. I thought of my near and dear republicans but did not say anything.
I can appreciate wanting her son to understand how things used to be. I respect it.
I remember once, years ago, I heard of protests against a production of Showboat because of it's negative stereotypical depictions of black people. I found this disturbing. Showboat is a musical based on a book by Edna Ferber. Showboat is a book and a story that has positive depictions of a romantic relationship between a black woman and a white man. It was written in 1926. Edna Ferber did not write what she wrote without suffering personal repercussions. What a shame that her work was being protested against years later - not because of it's positive depictions of a multiracial romantic relationship but because her work was being cited as a negative depiction of black people. How inappropriate. I think we do need to understand how things were as much as we can and face it.
Well ..... congratulations Barack Obama .... Happy Martin Luther King Day!
It's going to be a great day!
