How to Redeem a BAD weekend.

Monday, January 21, 2013

I've seen many a blog that reviews a weekend of splurging in food and/or alcohol, skimping on cardio and avoiding the forums/teams/site. This blog isn't an admonishment on ANY of that, rather this blog is to help you reset your GPS and get back on the road to "Health & Fitness".

In a blog in my early days on SP I came up with the GPS to navigate us on the road to "Health & Fitness"

G - Good Nutrition

P - Personal Fitness

S - Sparkpeople Involvement

It's THAT simple. If you had a weekend spent in a detour the quickest way back to the main road is to use your GPS to navigate you there!

Let's break it down.

G - Good nutrition. If you ate out in a restaurant or had lots of processed food on the weekend your tissues are likely holding some excess fluid due to higher sodium contents. Try to get back to clean eating. Select lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, low fat and no fat dairy and high fiber full grains. TRACK your food which means weigh/measure to get accurate portions.

P - Personal Fitness - Push the cardio. Elevating the heart rate helps rev up your metabolism. Walk, bike, swim, run, whatever you can do - DO! Try not to sit for extended periods of time. If your work is sedentary, get up every hour and move!

S - Sparkpeople Involvement - Are you on a team? Check in with the team. Read SP articles and member blogs. Get motivated by other's success stories. Take a quiz, try an SP workout video or exercise demo. If you aren't on a team join one! There is so much at this site to help you make progress on your journey.

No matter where your weekend took you AWAY from the main road all is not lost. Just turn on that GPS and get going!

You CAN do this!

Back to the basics! I splurged for an anniversary meal yesterday, but I consider it like a brief detour on the road to healthy eating. Enjoyed the lunch to the hilt, and then had a low-cal supper, and am back to my routine today:)
