Man, this is so hard! Dieting while single was a snap compared to this.
I enjoy eating dinner with my husband, but we have trouble finding things that we both like. I used to eat a lot of rice and pasta, but he doesn't eat either of those. The only things we always agreed on were fast food. Since that is mostly off the table, we struggle to find ways to eat together.
Here's what we are doing to try and make dinners work:
1)we have one night a week that I've assigned to DH to cook. I have to know what it is ahead of time that he is cooking so I can allot calories for it.
2) I have one night a week for "chef's choice"... it may be something that he likes, it may not. He has to try a bite of it, but after that, he can eat whatever he wants.
3) There will be a vegetable served at every meal. See rule 2 for trying rule. This is to get him to try new things (he's really picky, even with things that he's never tried).
4) We put together the week's dinner plans each Sunday. That way, we can make sure all the ingredients are in the house.
So far so good... we've followed the meal plan the majority of the nights, and the weight is coming off!
