January 20th. Wow, I can’t believe the month is almost gone. I feel good about how I have been progressing. emoticon I have kept my 10 minutes a day or more exercise streak going. emoticon I have to keep tweaking my calorie burn amount so I don’t get “THE MESSAGE”. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I am apologizing ahead to any one from the mainland who may read this, but my fellow Hawaii Sparkers will understand. emoticon It has been BLOOOY COLD this past week. One of my co-workers posted the weather report for his area on Facebook, and it was 59*. I had 3 blankets on my bed and my fleece pajamas. When you are used to an average of 80*, anything under 75* is nuts. Getting out of bed and putting on workout clothes definitely does not appeal, but I did it. One good thing; I am kind of bad about changing out of my sweaty clothes right away if I am not going anywhere. With it being so cold, I do not want to get chilled, so I shower before I start my breakfast.

I have come to the conclusion that I am going to have to stick with Walking and Biking for my Cardio. emoticon emoticon I have SP’s Cardio Blast with Coach Nicole, and I tried a couple of the groupings on it. At my current weight, it is too much strain on my left foot (I had a torn tendon repaired and screws placed to help support the arch). emoticon I have been doing Indoor walking, and some biking, but my bike needs to be looked at. Goal for this week; get my bike to the repair shop. Hopefully, it just needs a tune up.

I hope everyone has had a good weekend, and that the week ahead is fruitful emoticon and vegi-ful! emoticon emoticon

And hey - getting cardio on the bike is excellent - here's a little story for you: So, I normally do my cardio mostly via zumba and the elliptical. Last night I needed some extra cardio, so I went down to our workout room and the elliptical was being used (pretty common problem these days due to the workout room being remodeled, so many more people now use it!) The treadmill was being used as well... So - I decided I had to use the stationery bike. WOW - just 10 minutes on that thing and I could really feel my thigh muscles engaged in a meaningful way!!! It made me realize I need to add the bike to the rotation to work muscles in a different way, and/or muscles that aren't getting a good workout!

As far as the weather - sorry, but I am one of those locals who LOVES the "cold" weather. So I am enjoying it. It also motivates me to workout harder, since I won't be so hot and uncomfortable once I start to sweat!

    Ahhh - I do so well understand! But I'll share something that will make you smile. We picked up a couple friends from the airport last night. They flew in direct from Anchorage. We then took them to Nico's so they could get some food (we had already eaten). As we're sitting outside (they had requested some place where they could sit outside), she said "it's cold"! So its not just us locals who think its cold! LOL!

Great job on the streaks! And walking and biking are still great ways to get the cardio burn. If you have some small hand weights, you can beef up the walking a bit. And if you don't have any weights, a couple soup cans would work! :)
