So, I'm happy to say that things are going well "on my own".
For the most part I've been eating meals I make at home. I try to make up some recipes on the weekend. And since I'm a singleton, a couple of recipes at 4 servings each is enough for me for the week.
I've also been wearing my BodyMedia Fit armband and logging my meals there. The prep and logging my meals does take more time, but it truly has helped. My first week I lost 4.8 lbs! And this week I lost 3.2!
I'm very pleased with my progress. And I'm not starving myself. I have 3 snacks and 3 meals a day and at least 1 snack's a sweet one. Depending on the calories I've burned that day, I generally eat between 1400 and 1800 calories a day and I still make a calorie deficit.
There have been temptations at work, but so far I've been able to resist. And I'm really trying to plan ahead. I've only gone out to eat once in these 2 weeks and I looked up the calories beforehand.
For most breakfasts, I'll either eat the Muesli or the Stepfanie's Oatmeal Mix from the Sparkpeople cookbook. They both have good fiber. And since I haven't been eating as many frozen meals, I've noticed some changes. Not to be gross, but I'm less gassy. Apparently some of the preservatives they use in frozen foods must do a number on my system, which I never realized until now.
As for working out, I'm trying to get in more mornings at the gym, but I'm taking a realistic approach. I have tae kwon do for about 2 hours every weeknight and sometimes I don't get home until 8:30 pm. With the tae kwon do that usually gives me some calorie burning there and if I don't get to sleep until late, I'm not going to want to get up before 5 am to go to a gym class. Sometimes I need the sleep more.
So far, so good. When I reach 10 lbs lost, I'm going to reward myself by using the JC Penney gift card I got for Christmas to buy some new workout clothes. They have really cute stuff there.
