WOOHOO, Turtle Power!

Sunday, January 20, 2013

I've always really liked turtles - even have a small collection of turtle figurines, each with its own story - and finding box turtles in the yard makes me smile. But I never planned to BE one, and never would have thought I'd be DELIGHTED that a turtle is exactly what I am.

No black magic or funny mushrooms involved here, just a weight loss metaphor. After years of yoyoing by 5+ pounds a week, losing and gaining 20-40 pounds at a time and torturing my body with those swings, SP has made weight loss safe and sane for me. At my age (I'm 64), it's likely that half a pound a week is exactly the right number - and I'm THRILLED about it!

I'm a turtle...just a half a pound a week is being given back to the universe :)...slow and steady... So today I changed my weight loss icon to a turtle, and I'll add some turtles to my SparkPage this week.

This turtle is here for the long haul! Thank you so very much everyone, thanks Chris. Thank God.

Slow and steady wins the race, but with all my changes at this age and stage of life and stress, I am happy to be able to WI each week and just not see it going UP..... but I can be especially proud of myself that it's been almost a year now that I have been under 200 lbs.....

Coming 60 this summer, so what is important to me, maybe looking for a job is just not necessary and too much stress right now. I have to decide....

Yes, know that feeling all too well- I am a turtle, too..especially when it has taken me 3 years to lose 65 pounds!!! But, that is least since joining SP and losing 39 pounds of that-I have kept losing and not gained any back!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Excellent. I have a mobility impairment so expect to lose no more than about half a pound a week. Accepting that my losses may be slow has made significant difference to my approach. At one time I would give up if I hadn't lost 1-1.5 pound (so I gave up a lot!) - and never really got very far at al (mainly put on weight!)l. Since accepting the 0.5 weight loss limit I've stuck at it, and on occasions do find myself a little bit more. emoticon

You are so right in your attitude. And yes turtles are marvelous creatures. I'm like you I used to be so tied to the scale and if it didn't move the way I wanted then it was game over. I now realize that is not realistic.

Take care
