One of the side effects of pregnancy, menopause, even weight gain and lack of exercise, is having to wear Poise pads because when you laugh or sneeze or even bend over or squat, you leak. It means not wanting to drink 8 glasses of water a day. Menopause means no more period, hurrah! But then your muscles change, particularly "down there" and you are back to a pad.
I had visited my doctor and a urologist about this and they basically said "Live with it." -- Male doctors by the way.
It had gotten a little better with weight loss and exercise, particularly walking, but if I got a cough, oh boy.
I started to visit a physiotherapist about abdomen exercises with my hernia as I am not supposed to do crunches or sit ups. She made me stand on one foot and as I wobbled, she said " You are incontinent, aren't you?"
Woah! Did I smell?
No. She knew my pelvic floor was weak because I couldn't balance on one foot.
Keugels don't work.
What does work is Keugels and Umbrella breathing. I CAN NOW GO SEVERAL HOURS WITHOUT WANTING TO PEE OR LEAKING. SORENESS AND INFECTIONS CLEARED UP!!! Not totally cured but getting there. I want to share this miracle with all of you.
She taught me to umbrella breath: Pull in a breath and expand your diaphragm while keeping your "down there" relaxed. Breath out and at the same time do a Keugel. Tightening the area of your vagina. But keep the bum relaxed (Not as easy as it seems). You will feel it inside and up the sides of your stomach if you do it right.
At first I couldn't move the muscles, then I started to feel it as I worked out.
do this 5x for 5x a day for six weeks. Then twice a day for life. You can do this anywhere as it doesn't show.
I have also now moved onto abdomen exercises. In all exercises, I Umbrella breath and Keugel.
