So in the last 2 weeks I've had 6 Business dinners - one (my company party) I blew my calories (5K+) but the rest I managed to eat under. I influenced the restaurant choice, avoided alcohol and was able to stay underneath.
My rules for doing this is so far when travelling on business:
1) Always eat a low calories breakfast (oatmeal) because you have no idea where you'll be eating for lunch or dinner
2) Suggest restaurants with a healthy option menu - if not head for the chains which are more likely to have nutrition information etc than the boutique places
3) Before leaving your car do a web search on your smart phone for nutrition for that restaurant. If available the Eat this/not that app really helps.
4) Avoid the bread - better to order and appertizer you know the calories of than munch on the snacks...
On one meal I made a game with the group of guessing the calories - they were shocked and it helped the healthier eating.
I struggled in one meeting and munched on Chocolate chip cookies but avoided candy in another 5 all-day meetings.
I think I'm going to have to pack snacks for the business meetings.
Anyway I'll see how I cope in the next week.
