On My Way

Saturday, January 19, 2013

I am at the airport as I type this.
I am on my way to visit my parents. It is a bittersweet trip.
It may be the last time I see them both alive.
My siblings who have visited recently state they have aged 10 years in the past 6 months.
My Mother's kidneys are failing and she has decided she does not want dialysis. She sleeps 15 - 20 hours a day due to the uremic poisoning.
My Dad fell a couple of months ago and sustained a fracture. He has not recovered well.
They have had a good life and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last month.

It is hard to see your parents age and be sick and know there is nothing you can do to help. I hope you have a good trip.

Oh, I am sorry. I have lost both of my parents and it certainly is painful. Patricia, it sounds like they had a wonderful life together. That is something to be celebrated.

Dear Patricia These are the hardest days we have to endure; saying goodbye to our parents. When I knew my parents time had come, I remember making the most of the days I had with them; getting them and me to laugh again and remember all the good times we had together.
I hope this journey for you helps you to be in the moment with them, bring back loving memories and give you time to say good-bye. Remember to take care of yourself as well.

Hug 'em tight, and make memories... and cherish memories you already have of stronger days. And let God guide you, every step of the way.
