Kicking the Coke

I have conquered one of my biggest challenges. Addiction to Diet Coke. I believe this was the most important accomplishment I have done to stop the craving for sugar. It all started when I was 15 years old and began each day with one of those little glass bottles of Coke. The carbonation was so strong that the first gulp made your eyes water. I was hooked. Then came the lbs and the diet sodas. Tab addiction took Coke's place. Then Diet Coke when it first came out. I drank a 12 pack a day for decades. Finally I began to 'get off the Coke' challenge about 10 years ago. I would play little games with myself. I had to drink half gallon of water before I allowed myself one diet Coke. Stuff like that. I got down to one a day. But still craved them all the time. While sharing this story with my son, he suggested that I try getting through 3 days of nothing to drink but water. Put nothing in the water that would make it sweet. His theory was that the lemonade and iced tea I was trying to replace the soda with was keeping me craving the Coke. He was right. That was last July. I have not had one Diet Coke or any soda since that day. I can't believe how easy it was after that first day. WOOHOO! I am coke free!!!
