DVDs in Mexico

Saturday, January 19, 2013

I know it's not right but we get to buy DVD movies at the local market on Wednesdays....some of which are just coming out in theaters in the states. It is amazing to me how good the DVD are quality wise and how cheap. But it is the only way we really can see many of the things that come out. We buy a DVD for like $25 pesos....so that is cheap...like $2 dollars US. I love movies and am so happy that we at least have a way to see them although I know this is illegal. I have no idea how they get these movies so fast. So recently we watched Lincoln, which I thought was good. I know many folks thought it dragged on in places but I loved the history aspect and what our country has gone through over the years to pass amendments and such. Made me go on line to see how many amendments there were and what they were for...very interesting....The one thing that really rang clear in the movie was that even way back then there was such fighting between the democrat's and republicans. The two party system seems to always have been screwed up. So very telling movie if you get a chance to see it.

Then last night we watched Hitchcock with Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren. I thought this also was good. Poor Hitchcock certainly struggled with his weight. He was obese all his life. This movie also made me want to search the internet to see more about his life and such.

So I hate that it's illegal to buy these DVD's but I am so happy I get to see these movies living in Mexico. Anyone else out there have any good movies to recommend that they have seen lately?

Hope all my sparks buddies are having a great day.
I really enjoyed my pizza yesterday.....to me it's the perfect splurge. Funny though I didn't put any weight on...but today we go out to eat with neighbors and friend to the village next to ours where they have the big grilled platter. So the weight gain is only delayed I bet. But as you all know, I will get right back on track after and try and lose weight to get under goal for the next splurge.
Have a terrific day.

The title just caught my attention....
You really shouldn't buy those movies.... not only you're supporting a huge mafia (murderers, robbers, etc) by buying them, but you're also affecting all of those involved in the film, DVDs, "disqueras", etc industry. Many people are losing their job thanks to "Piraterķa", I really don't think it's that hard to wait until the -original- DVD is released so... yeah, just my opinion...

Yea it is strange how they do that so quick. I want to see Lincoln :-) Will be a while before it is out on dvd fir us to watch here. We have not gone to the theater to watch movies in ages lol. It is crazy what it costs for a family to go to the movies. You can almost buy groceries for the week with what it costs especially if you buy anything at the concession stands.
Glad you got to enjoy a splurge and didn't see a gain. I saw a gain this week with out even really splurging.

Wow, that is so cheap for new release movies.
I have seen 'Hitchcock' and loved Helen Miren
and Sir Anthony Hopkins in it. H was quite a
character. I haven't seen Lincoln, but have seen
Quartet and The Hobbit. Both were good.

I went to see Silver Linings Playbook. I really liked it. Lincoln is playing here now too so maybe will go see that.

Have fun tonight.

We rarely go to the movies, but wait for them on pay per view or regular TV. We have a big screen HDTV here at home. I love to be able to pause it if I need a break and back it up if I missed a word or two, which I inevitably do. So, sorry, no recommendations. Will be looking out for Lincoln and Hitchcock.

Funny, but when I was growing up I was very sensitive to my obesity, but never thought that it was wrong or a problem for Hitchcock. I thought there was just a double standard - that women had to be small to be acceptable, but that men could be whatever they wanted and still be accepted. I don't see it that way so much now, partly because of the health consequences.

By the time I see the movies they are on one of the pay stations on cable or regular TV. As a kid, I went to the movies a lot, but as an adult I avoid them. They advertise them so much on TV, you feel you have already seen the majority of the movie. I hate where I government is going today. All that will be left is the history of a a republic.

I need to go to the tianges in Guaymas and look for DVD's!! Do you need a mexican DVD player or will they wok in a US one? I dislike cinemas - big crowds, best way to pick up a cold or even flu..

I did think Lincoln dragged a bit- but what a beautiful film, cinematically.
It was sickening to think that politics have always been so corrupt!

I would not recommend Beasts of the Southern Wild, myself, but many folks love it. The little girl who stars is amazing but the story is about a bunch of low-life drunkards and their dysfunction.
