South beach?

Saturday, January 19, 2013

I am an addict. More specifically - I am addicted to carbs. I crave sweets, pasta, French fries, potatoes, crackers, chips... All things carbolicious!! Ugh. I tried low to no carb in the past, but I couldn't hack it. I have moved toward whole grains and better carbs, but I still crave the bad stuff, and I eat way too much sugar. So I have been looking at South Beach Supercharged. It seems to be a very healthy and balanced plan, especially after the initial phase. I'm doing my research and making some food and recipe notes.

Anyone want to share any experience with this, or tips to moving toward this way of eating? If so, whether positive or negative, I'd love to hear it!!

personally, I'm A CARB ADDICT too! emoticon I just love them! BUT, as I educate myself more and more on food and nutrition, I think I am learning that SUGAR and Most Carbs are our ENEMY! I just read a book "Wheat Belly - Lose the Wheat, Lose the Wheat" (it was very insightful). What I thought were "healthy carbs" are actually modified and now act just like junk sugar in our bodies. Didn't you think that eating WHOLE Wheat Bread was better than eating a candy bar? Hmmmm, maybe not so much.

Basically, as restrictive as it seems, we should not be eating most breads, crackers, pasta, we should be eating no pre-packaged foods, frozen dinner things... and of course, no clearly junk sugar.

It's rough but as we figure out what we really want... Hopefully that is HEALTH, we will learn how to get there and it's not from eating what we 'crave' and binge on.

Good luck to you on this journey!

Did cutting down out bad carbs help you crave them less? That's really the only reason I would even consider cutting out sugar and carbs for even a couple of weeks. I just feel so controlled by those cravings.

I started by doing the South Beach a few years ago, and like the others I gained it all back plus some. Then I tried Dukan because family members did it and look incredible. It did not work for me because I cannot afford the types of food that is on it. Now I am doing what feels right for me. Making sure I get lots of fruits and veggies, and balancing my diet with the right proportions of carbs, proteins and fats. Logging everything that goes in my mouth is a key factor as I can see in numbers how well I am doing daily. Like NIKKICOLE83 I eat what my body says I want in portion control and if I overeat in calories, I make up for it in exercise. Hope you can find something that works for you.

I did South Beach about 10 years ago. I found it a bit restrictive, but it was also difficult for me to do because I was a college girl living in a meat and potatoes house trying to go low carb!

I did, however, lose 20 lbs in the 3 months I was on it. Gained it all back and then about 30 more. Most like that was just because I wasn't quite ready to lose weight yet. Aaaaand South Beach was recommended by my DOCTOR, because it was designed by a heart surgeon. So I think all in all it's a fairly healthy way to go.

Since using the SparkPeople food tracker I've lost 51 lbs in 9 months, and I'm still going strong. Like NIKKICOLE83, I don't like restrictions! emoticon

I have never tried it. My mom did South Beach when it first came out and she lost a TON of weight. She also gained back all that weight and more. I will never tell a person what does or does not work because each person is different. Diet plans dont work for me because when I stop those plans, I stop losing weight. I am more a person that will allow myself ALMOST anything in moderation as long as I write it down, deduct it from my available calories and put in a workout if I am really bad. It has helped me lose a little over 50 pounds in 7 months. Good luck.
