I had a lunge-a-ful workout today!

I worked out twice with my trainer this week and I'm always amazed by how great squats and lunges feel. Now wait a minute -- I am not a WEIRDO. When i started working with the trainer last fall, I couldn't do a single squat, not one.

We started with a chair. And she had me sit down and stand up 10 times. The next time it was 12 times. And the next time it was 15 times.

Then we started doing it WITHOUT THE CHAIR!

THEN we added dumbbells.

So I went from not being able to do a single squat -- to doing 3 sets of 20 with dumbbells. We started out with 5 lb. dumbbells and gradually increased to 8 lb. dumbbells.

THEN ... we added forward lunges, but without weights because my knees are just a bit shaky. Now we use 6 lb. dumbbells for the forward lunges.

AND THEN ... we added lateral lunges with dumbbells, gain starting with 5 lb. dumbbells, and I'm now using 8 lb. dumbbells for those, too.

Grab a chair. It's awesome strength training and you'll really begin to feel your legs and butt get toned! You can check out the videos on SparkPeople to see the proper form. Most important things are to keep your back straight and not overextend your knees. If it hurts (like bad hurt) ... STOP!
