A small step back....

Friday, January 18, 2013

Went to see my PCP today, and I was hoping that my hemoglobin A1C blood test was finally going to be in the "normal" range (5.6% or less). My last test in October was at 5.7, so I was THAT close!

Unfortunately, not only had it not gone down, it went UP! Back above 6%!! Not back into the "diabetic" range, but close enough that I need to more closely monitor my eating, especially in the evening.

Thankfully, my PCP reassured me that it was likely due to the holidays, and then it hit me that in addition to the holidays, I was on the road twice during the past four months! Not making excuses, just a reality check!

Also thankfully, my weight stayed in check, so at least I won that battle!

So...a small step back. Just a reminder that the fight never ends! Vigilance is the key!

Looking forward to refocusing my efforts to get my blood sugar in the "normal" range!

You've some so far! it is just a reminder, as you say. My DH has managed his diabetes now with diet for the past two years. His A1C was 6.0. When he was diagnosed 5 years ago it was almost 8. Even with the strokes, he has handled it well. I have to be extra vigilant, too, to make sure he stays on track.
It's a reminder for me, as well. I must think before I put anything in my mouth!! It ALL counts!

Maybe a small step back but you are still doing great. Sounds like there may be a simple explanation and you'll soon get to where you want to be.

Even without the blood sugar challenge, I have to monitor what I eat and make corrections from time to time. It sounds like you have a tougher task, requiring constant vigilance rather than periodic monitoring. I hope you can do what you needs doing to get the results you want.

You are still doing excellent! I can only wish for an A1C of those numbers. I am still up around 8.
Yes we have an ongoing battle, but it will be won!
    Hugs,
