Re-up on Motivation

Friday, January 18, 2013

It's been a little over a week since I've last blogged. In that time, I've had some successes (getting back into a fairly regular workout routine!) and some obstacles (hello hormones and Doritos!). I'm still keeping up with my "fearless" challenge and trying something out of my comfort zone every single day. Nothing worth writing about really, just things that are/were obstacles to me that I've been going out of my way to tackle. I'm feeling really good about that.

But I'd be lying if I said my motivation isn't flagging juuuuust a little. I am still doing most of the things I am "supposed" to - eating healthier, logging food, exercising, etc. Yet somehow I feel like my mind is starting to lose focus. It's just the tiniest difference, but I can feel it.

Maybe it's the winter weather, maybe it's my busy schedule, maybe some of this is even becoming routine (which is a good thing!) but I want to nip this shift in attitude in the bud before it gets out of hand.

What do you guys do to pick yourself out of a lull? What's your favorite way to re-up on motivation?

When I feel like I'm falling into a lull, I try something new. Change up my cardio, even if it's going for a walk outside instead of a workout video or vice versa. I try a different recipe for dinner, or fall back on an old healthy favorite. Treat myself to something healthy, and good - like a mani, a hot bath, a new book. Good for the soul!
You'll get out of this rut, don't worry. Just keep following your good habits, and you'll find yourself back where you were in no time.

Good advice. I like to research and learn what others are doing.

I try to remember the deepest reason for doing what I'm doing.

The only reason why I have the drive to do it this time is because I'm getting married in 2014 and I have over 100 lbs to lose which I'm really hoping I can do by then. So how about this for you. Find an amazing dress that you'd be able to wear once you drop the pounds you need to drop and set a goal that by "July 1st I will fit into this dress" or some other mini goal of something you really really want that you can start motivating yourself to work towards. I'm hoping as this process goes on and I start getting alot healthier that the drive will be towards just being healthy but for right now this wedding dress is a pretty huge help for staying on track. Good luck! emoticon

Sounds like you're doing pretty well. I think you should read other peoples blogs... seeing other people struggle or succeed really helps me out. It also helps to write blogs about how you're feeling. People's comments really push me to keep going.

Write a blog about your successes... no matter how small. It makes them more real and makes you feel accomplished. I wrote a blog on Day 30 of my active healthy lifestyle. And I didn't even realize I had developed some everyday healthy habits until I wrote the blog!

Don't underestimate blogging... I think it is one of the greatest tools on this site!

Good luck and keep pushing!
