Salad in a Jar

Thursday, January 17, 2013

A friend shared this with me and I think it is a great idea.

SALAD IN A JAR is easy to make ahead, saves space in your fridge,
reduces food waste and the options are endless!

THE ARRANGEMENT
From BOTTOM to TOP:

Dressing (always on bottom)
Shredded carrots
Cherry tomatoes
Sunflower seeds
Hard boiled eggs
Baby spinach
Lettuce (always on top)

DIRECTIONS
1) Arrange ingredients in a large mason jar
2) Store in fridge for up to a week
3) When ready to eat: shake jar, place on a plate, and eat!

You can make any arrangement you want…
you can add red onion, cucumbers, radishes or peppers.
Always remember to put the dressing at the bottom and the lettuce at the top—a MUST.

****NOTE**** If your making a few salads at a time for the week, you MUST remember to vacuum seal the Mason Jars. (Mason jars can be bought at any store) They must be vacuum sealed to remain fresh and crisp :)

Looks like a nice grab n go lunch. I have plenty of mason jars, how do you vacuum seal them. I thought you did that by heating which I am sure is not what you meant.
Thanks for sharing.

Like that; thanks for sharing. Will try because I'm not thrilled with all that goes into making salads. Once and done. Cool.

I have started doing this on a regular basis for my lunches! SO easy to put together and it really helps me meet my 5 fruits/veggies a day goal!
