Just "Do It"

Thursday, January 17, 2013

The first weekend challenge is getting us back into the swing of things focusing on getting back to the basics of tracking our food, moving and... figuring out how to get rid of things that are weighing us down.

D: DECIDE to just DO IT. Have a break-through this weekend. Attack anything that has been holding you back.

I have decided that I am going to FINALLY call our waste management service and arrange for a large item pick up. We have 2 water heaters and a treadmill (plus other stuff) that needs to go! And have needed to for over a year. Yeah, both of our water heaters went out (we have 2 houses on our property) went out and we replaced them in January 2011. They have been sitting in my back yard waiting for me to get it done. So I will.

O: OXYGENATE you body. Do your cardio. Do an activity that raises your heart rate and makes you shine with sweat and pride for at least 20 minutes.

Oh yeah! I got this one! I am trying to streak with my pedometer and to get the 7,000 steps a day I need to workout for at least 30 minutes of walking. I can do this!

I: INTERACT. TWO parts to this one - FIRST post on your chat thread with real information about you - what's important to know about you AND SECOND respond to your team members who post. Don't worry, you don't have to reply to EVERY person, just acknowledge or respond to at least some of your teammates. Is there someone that makes you smile? Laugh? Say "me too"? LET THEM KNOW. These connections will help carry you through the next 12 weeks and *beyond*!

Tough one for me over the weekend. I'll try to sneak on and post but I spend most of the weekends with "real" people so it's sometimes hard to post.

T: TRACK your nutrition. It would be great to be able to stay within your calorie range, but the real focus of this weekend is to get familiar with your food tracker (it doesn't matter if you use Spark, an app, or a paper napkin). Knowledge is power. Know what you're eating!

I'm going to try to stay within calorie range over the weekend. I am committed though to at least logging it all. Saturday will be difficult because my friend is going to do a lot of little appetizers for grazing while we play games at her house. I'll do my best.

I am now on day 16 of my 7,000 steps (+) daily and going strong. Going to have to do more when I get home as my morning dvd didn't give me many steps, but it did give me some great strength and other movements I don't do often work.

This sounds like a great challenge!
The thing about the social and the grazing -at least you will be doing something -playing games as opposed to just sitting around watching TV, so this will be a great thing -you can focus on the games and ignore the food. No one is forcing you to have any, remember. You are in control of what you eat. A coiple of samples just to say you tried them is all you really need to do..That being said you can also eat low calories meals before the event so you have some banked to spare, and or do an extra workout for that day.. It is hard to resist the delectables people put out for sure. I need to workout extra hard if I am going somehwere because if they have ginger snaps that are chewy I am so gone lol. Nothing else interests me like they do.
Way to go on the steps!! Keep up the great work!!
Good luck with your weekend -have lots of fun!

emoticon you're doing great! A pedometer is one of the things I need to invest in also. I'd love to see how many steps I take after being on the treadmill. Have a great week.

It is good to share. There are others going or have been through similar experiences. Share it or wear it can take on many different meanings.
I really appreciated knowing you had been through one of my experiences and survived!

I love you D-- I have the exact same problem-- one water heater has been sitting in our basement for over a year! I will use your idea as inspiration to get my butt in gear and do the same!

7000 steps a day is a wonderful goal, too-- you will get your O no prob-- you're already on a 16 day streak which is AWESOME! (LOVE goals that are measurable-- "more cardio" doesn't work nearly as well as 7000!)

It is hard, on the weekends to go on the computer. Before BLC, I actually was on weekend hiatus from the puter as I tend to go into workmode on it. Do what you can, spending time with "real" people is important!

Tracking is especially hard in social situations-- I have a similar situation this weekend with a card playing group that has a pot luck-- I will track what I can, and look up recipes online for things if I'm not sure. It's not exact, but it's about as good as I can do without demanding complete recipes and then weighing out everything I eat (I've been tempted to try that, but that can also keep you from getting invited to parties-- pulling out the kitchen scale isn't exactly perceived as a "woo hoo para's lettin' her hair down" party thing. I digress.)

You totally got this cyndi. Those points are yours!
