Well, I finally did it. After over two weeks of conscientiously trying (except for the days I was sick), I got over 10,000 steps in one day! Here's how I did it:
I walked up and down the stairs at work 20 times in the morning (I'm not exaggerating; I had to go down then back up for printing).
I walked 1.5 miles at lunch. I wasn't very fast but I can get better so as to get more steps in at lunch.
I walked for 20 minutes in the spare time I had between getting home from work and getting my daughter from her bus stop.
Even though I have developed blisters, my daughter and I went to Target to walk around for 2,000 more steps so I could get to my goal.
Now, I won't be able to go shopping every night and I have been within 2,000 steps before. I need to develop a plan as to how to get those extra steps in the evenings. I have two possibilities:
1) Get faster at lunch. This will obviously take some time.
2) Get up from my desk more often. This is all right but I have inherited phone duties so I am somewhat tied to my phone/desk.
3) Go for a walk after dinner.
Number 3 is difficult right now because it's dark in Seattle at 5pm. But I could try to make it work.
Anyway, I am finding that movement is definitely contributing to my mental and physical well-being at the moment so that is definitely a huge bonus.
