Letter to Future Self

Thursday, January 17, 2013

"For the main challenge this week, write a letter to your future self on the health and fitness journey you have made so far. What have you learned so far? What are your successes, areas you need to work on? What would you tell your future self to sweat (or to take more seriously) if you could?"

Hmm.. I think this is a tougher challenge than I first thought it would be. When I first read the challenge a few days back I thought, Easy enough. But now that I'm sitting down to do it I'm not sure where to start.
Firstly, I want to tell my future self of how very proud I am of her. I can tell already that she is still fighting. She is still maintaining and working to live a better life. She is strong and determined to live happily and so she will.
Secondly, I would like to remind her of the days when we first began this journey. The days when we were over 200 pounds. We never thought we could be there. Couldn't imagine it before, during, or even now that we could have ever been over 200 pounds without even being pregnant at the time! :) But all the same we were over 200 pounds and we fought hard to lose it and to gain control and health and happiness. We once fought and won to lose 60+ pounds. We can surely do whatever we put our minds to now. We MUST remember what we did and where we got that strength from and use it now. We must never give up. We must remember the pain AND the joy of the journey. And know that it is all worth it. Every step of the way.

I have a sneaky suspension that I am talking to my current self. lol!

I laughed at the end about talking to your current self. Yes, I think that is the point of the exercise, don't you? For me, it reinforced that this is a long range mission, not a quick jaunt. And since we're going to continue many of these good habits forever, we should be forgiving and grateful for the consistency we are trying to achieve.

Great challenge! I love your plan to be affirming to yourself and to praise your accomplishments without making the struggles (current and future) seem trifling. It IS hard work.

Thanks for the reminder that no matter where we are, we have come along way. I am fighting a stubborn 5 pound gain but now I recall I was once over 200 pounds and so I feel much better. emoticon

Great job Sara! I'm having a hard time with my letter too. I think I rather write a letter from my future self, telling me how fabulous my life is now that I've gotten it DONE! emoticon emoticon
