Back when we were in High School, one of my friends and I discovered SparkTeens. We both started using it- her to actually lose weight, me not because I needed to lose weight but that I wanted to increase my confidence. She stopped using it after a few months. I stuck with it. When I turned 18 I graduated to SparkPeople.

Fast-forward about 5-6 years. Today the two of us started talking through text as we do almost every day. I asked her: 'Ever thought about re-trying SparkPeople?' The reply I got was neutral: 'Nah. I like their site for info, but plugging everything in all the time is exhausting. I'm enjoying just going to my classes at the gym and not really thinking about what it all adds up to'. Fair enough.

When she asked if I was still using it I answered: 'Best thing that's ever happened to me.' And it's true. Even though I've never met 99% of you in person, I feel like I really know you. I look forward to hearing about what goes on in your day, sharing your triumphs and am genuinely sad when hearing about setbacks etc.

All in all it was an interesting conversation. And was good to hear her take on it- even if it wasn't what I was hoping to hear.

Good for you for sticking with it for so long. Your friend probably never reached a place where she really wanted to see why she felt the need to lose weight, that's why she uses the excuse of it being too exhausting to always log her info. She also probably didn't like what she saw in terms of how many calories she was eating but wasn't feeling compelled to change it. That's why she feels better keeping her head in the sand, not having to own what she's putting into her body. Poor girl, maybe one day she will figure out that you only get out what you put in!

My daughter also started out on Sparkteens, but wasn't happy because she couldn't find friends to challenge her and be there much. She was glad when she turned 18 and was old enough to join Sparkpeople. It is great being here.

I'm amazed by how long you have stuck with this! I wish I had been as determined as you when I was a teenager- it would have made a lot of things easier as an adult if I had taken my health seriously back then.

Keep it up- you're doing great things for yourself, now AND in the future!

There is always something in SP that makes me want to come back here. I think it adds a dimension in my life. It seems to be the same for you!
