Hello 2013 and SparkPeople friends,

I'm still doing my thing--low carb paleo/primal eating and swinging kettlebells like a madwoman. I'm also lifting heavy a couple times a week and still walking everywhere.

I've lost 50 lbs. as of today and a whole bunch of inches since I started here at SP back in July 2012. I've made some lovely friends here, and I've also learned all sorts of new and interesting stuff about nutrition and exercise during this period, which I'm grateful for.

I'm not around the SP site much anymore for reasons I've mentioned in previous posts. I've been tracking my workouts and food elsewhere--Fitocracy for the workouts, and My Fitness Pal for food. I really like both sites and definitely recommend them to anyone looking for alternatives. Please don't hesitate to send me a SparkMail if you'd like to connect with me at those other sites! I've got at least one of you following me at Fitocracy, but the more the merrier!

Speaking of food, I'm eating A LOT. Around 1800-2000 calories/day. I love it, though I must admit it was hard to consume that much food for the first few weeks after upping my calories. I found I needed to up my calories considerably due to the heavy lifting I've been up to. The lifting combined with my kettlebell work has really been great in terms of body composition and strength gains, but I definitely needed to eat a lot more food to support all that activity.

I had a rather easy time of things over the holidays--not too many sweets or starchy foods to dodge, and I managed to keep up with my exercise routine to some degree since about half of what I do regularly I do at home. So I did miss out on a bunch of heavy lifting days, but I managed to keep up with my kettlebell training here at home, no problem.

I will be checking in once or twice a week to say hello to friends and especially to keep up with my Kettlebell Challenge teammates. I'm so glad to see that group has really taken off! There's a 10,000 swing challenge for the month of January on right now, which is AWESOME! I'm a bit late to the party to catch up with them, but I will probably join in if the challenge is repeated in February.

Good to see you back here and hear that you're progressing so well. I'm thinking of incorporating more heavy lifting once my race on Saturday is over. It sounds like the Paleo eating is really working out for you. I'm finding tht it's a good basis for me as well because it keeps the processed crap out of my diet, but I'm lucky enough to tolerate some carbs and dairy, but I've broken my addiction to cheese, which is a miracle. Looking forward to seeing you at the KB Challenge team!

It's great to hear from you and of your success with Paleo/low carb. I had a hysterectomy 2 days ago and within 1/2 day of being in the hospital, my BS was 244 and they were giving me insulin. Their idea of a diabetic breakfast plate was 1/2 right. Eggs, a sausage, (OK, so far), a big white flour biscuit, a banana, oatmeal and skim milk (not OK at all) served with a side order of insulin. (BS was 185). After being home on my food plan, my BS was 108 this morning. Much better and without insulin. I'm very sore this morning and will spend the day relaxing.

    Keep in touch SP. emoticon

Thanks for checking back in! Glad to hear things are going so well!!

It'd be awesome to have you join in with the 10,000 swing challenge! So far I'm on track to make it to 10,000 swings this month, but there's days I know I'd skip my swinging if it weren't for the challenge.

Congrats on your new bells for Christmas! I got a new 12kg - my husband even splurged and went with an RKC bell. I'm loving it for strength exercises and one-handed swings (when I'm not feeling up to doing one-handed swings with my 20kg).

Just knowing your still doing the swinging/strength work really encourages me to keep going, too :)

Have a great year - and who knows, maybe I'll pop up on Fitocracy one of these days...
