Since mid December I have been at a plateau with my weight loss. I keep fluctuating by about 2 lbs. Most of this was due to the Holidays and all the sweets. Now I am slowly trying to work through all the sugar cravings. I also have this goal of doing 2 parts of a sprint triathlon this summer. the swimming part is easy for me, but i am definitely not a runner. I decided to work on a couch to 5k program. It has been very frustrating. i feel like I wasn't getting anywhere. I was lucky if i could run for 2 min intervals. How was I ever going to run 3.1miles?
Well I have kept plugging at it. I still can't run the whole distance, but today I actually started running 1/2 mile intervals, with 2 min walks in between. I did this for 2.5 miles. i am doing all this on a treadmill and I know it will be different when I take this outside, but I live in New England and it's snowing here. What I found one of my problems was that I was trying to run to fast. When I stopped trying to run a 12 min. mile and slowed down to a 13.5 min mile, I found I could run so much farther and longer. At this point, it's all about endurance and not speed. I'm so excited about all this. Oh yeah, and I finally dropped below the plateau and lost another lbs. That's 43 total pounds!!!
