How Did I Get Here?

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

Today, I changed for my Sparkcoach plateau busting to My Sparkcoach consistency and motivation team. As I was writing my introduction on that team, I realized that I am not stuck in a plateau, I am just stuck. This is the weight I am. So I needed to remind myself of how my journey began:

I joined SP 10/14/2009. I lost 65 lbs almost 25 years ago and it has all come back. I stopped showing my horse in 2009 so there was no incentive to fit in my riding suit. Then, I quit smoking Jan 1, 2010 and I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in June of 2010. Those two things really put me in a tailspin. I couldn't eat any fiber. Basically it was white everything. Took me about 1.5 years to get the colitis under control and, in that time, my weight kept going up. I truly began using SP after I quit smoking, but I couldn't follow the nutrition plan.

I am trying to start back eating healthy again, but now, I have been stuck at this same weight for a couple years. It needs to go. For me, I have to learn to be consistent with my eating. I am great at home, but when we go out, I generally make poor choices including cocktails. I love anything with cream sauces. Also, it is very difficult to know what ingredients they use in restaurants which makes it very difficult to track honestly. We generally don't go to chain restaurants so the nutrition is not listed anyway. I like eating out as I work from home and it is my way of "getting away from the office." I have made some really positive changes lately, but I need to stay consistent and motivated.

Exercise has become pretty much a daily habit. If I miss at all, it is one day a week. I am very good at tracking through out the day until it comes to foods I ate while eating out. I am working on that. I have cut way back on the alcohol and will continue to do so.

Consistency is key!

When I eat out, I go with a game plan.

I usually order what I like...even if it has sauces....and when I order, I order a to go box. Then, when I get my plate, I start portioning out everything but the veggies. The potato is usually so big that I put half of that in the to go box....most times there's not enough veggies to go in the box but that's ok.

I never get fries...unless it's chic fil a. I'm very choosy about my fast food.

If it's something that's saucey...which usually doesn't happen because, I try to order a salad with my dressing on the side.

My biggest issue is bread. OMG...I'm better off if they don't bring it.

My bff loves chines buffet. OMG...I'm so not a buffet person but what I do here is...get some of my favorite dishes and load up on the veggies. I do this twice and usually become just as full as she is...but...we ate differently.

I think anything is fine in moderation....and i think it's worse if you cut it out all together....

I don't have a problem with eating out (basically because I rarely eat out) my biggest problem is the weekend. I do great all week and then Friday night, Saturday and Sunday I fail miserably.

right there with you, with you all!! LOL!!! When we go out to eat which is 1 to 2x a week my safe option is steak n broccoli...if that helps. I do like to have few drinks on the weekend and that is my down fall.

Totally get this! I make pretty good choices at home, but horrid when I am out. Sometimes I feel like this is the weight I am always going to be no matter what I do. Keep up the consistancy - you are motivating me to do the same!

health isses are such a problem, also eating healthy when you food sensitivities is difficult, but starting slow and introducing a healthy food choice one at a time will help. You will get there!!

Yes it is. I am having some issues myself these days. I am in a funk because of the illness and now that I'm not really exercising I can see the effects of my bad choices.
