Gave up Diet soda!!!!!!!!

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

emoticon For all of the wonderfully healthy changes that I have made over the past few years...there was one thing that I held onto......My consumption of diet soda....I rationalized that I NEEDED one vice.....True, I did give up having it at home, but I would allow myself to have it away from the home....I knew the whole time that it is poison to my body and has NO NUTRITIONAL value....still, it was a treat that I could have when running around with family(especially helpful since I don't consume wheat and am vegan)...While the family would be enjoying their lunch at Costco, I would enjoy my soda... emoticon
I decided that I couldn't handle the lack of integrity that I was displaying to all around me...I was the one always talking about being healthy, yet here I was drinking poison! Blech! So, I decided that this was it...I would not drink any more!!!!!! Also, for further motivation....I would put the money saved...into my entry fees for running races. emoticon

Great job!! I'm on day 7 of going without sugar AND artificial sweeteners that I have overused for many, many years. It is a freedom I feel good about. emoticon

I just don't see much harm in diet sodas. Having weened myself out of regular soda and into diet soda, I feel this is the best of both evils. There comes a point where one has to enjoy something bad and for me, diet soda will stay in the menu.

I generally only drink one coke zero a day myself but I try t drink mostly water. If that works for you great. All I know is I don't care for stevia sweetened pop.

Congratulations. That is a vice that I haven't completely eliminated yet. But at home I drink mostly sparkling water and feel the better for it. Good for you. Continue your successful maintenance.

Diet soda has always tasted weird to me. I drink regular soda about once a month. I have it at restaurants. Most of the time, I regret it. I think I rather have water than soda.

It took me years to break my Diet Coke addiction. I don't miss it and I never understood why I was so addicted. These days, I usually drink sparkling flavored waters or mineral water for a fizzy fix.

If I really want a soda, I'll have an organic brand with no chemicals or preservatives. Every now and then, I do like a root beer float.

I never liked diet soda, but I did love my cokes and dr peppers. I've slipped and had probably 10 in the last 6 weeks, but for the most part I'm drinking water. After awhile your taste buds arent used to it and if you have one they taste awful.

emoticon This was one of the hardest hurdles for me. But I had a HORRIBLE addiction ... drinking 10-12 diet pepsi's a day. I had a horrible caffeine headache for about 2 weeks. Now I drink them "socially"... like I used to drink alcohol. If I go out with friends, I will have a diet pepsi. emoticon

emoticon emoticon I was completely addicted to diet soda (would probably drink 6 cans a day!!) until I gave it up (cold-turkey), uh, I can't really remember when. I started out counting the days that I had gone without, and now I just can't seem to remember when I quit, but it's been at least 18 months, and maybe quite a bit longer than that.. In a way, I see that as a success. Something that I was totally obsessed with (I would skip eating to drink diet sodas and could never understand why I didn't lose weight... hmmm..) and now it is such a non-issue that I don't even remember when I stopped.
